Dog abandoned with heartbreaking note

On Monday, someone abandoned a crated dog behind a veterinary clinic in Harwinton, Connecticut. Whoever left the pit bull also left behind a heartbreaking, handwritten note explaining why.

According to the note, the dog, name “Fatty McFat” belonged to someone who lost their home. The person wrote, “My human went homeless and found out they have a disease and cannot care for me.” The note also indicated that the dog is aggressive because he is scared.

Note left with abandoned dog

Fatty’s owner claims that multiple attempts were made to find the dog a home, but noted that “no one cared.” The most heartbreaking portion of the handwritten letter are the words, “My owner loves me very much, I am their life.”

The Harwinton Animal Control is hoping that someone knows who Fatty McFat belongs to. On Monday, the agency wrote:

ATTENTION!!
This dog was left abandoned in this crate behind the vets office in Harwinton. Male Pitbull, intact, no chip. Wearing red bandana and prong training collar. Someone has to recognize this dog, please look at the letter that was attached to the crate. Maybe you recognize the handwriting or the situation being described. Please call Harwinton Animal Control at 860-806-8743. Please share!

  1. Poor sweet dog i hope that they find the owner of Fatty MCFAT not to have a go at her though just to try and help the owner

  2. The sad truth is, most rescues and shelters are overflowing. It can be hard to find a good home for a pet you have to rehome. Too many resort to posting on Craigslist or other places that attract less-than-honest people. Sometimes it’s just a case of finding someone to care for a pet while the owner finds a place to live. In the short time I had my rescue, I still feel my biggest win was helping two disabled people who were losing their home. They had two dogs – an older Husky, who I got placed with a Husky rescue a friend runs, and a little poodle-type mixed breed who they loved more than life itself. I was able to find temporary placement for Sammie and even got him his shots and a grooming. When the owners moved into a relative’s house, at first they were told they couldn’t bring their dog (the relative had a dog already). After a few weeks, however, they convinced the relative to give Sammie a chance and the reunion was beyond amazing. One thing that still haunts me was the husband telling me just how many rescues and shelters he reached out to for help. It was heartbreaking to listen to he and his wife listing off the rescues they contacted. But, I know how it can be – I’m still getting calls from people wanting to surrender their dogs and cats. Sometimes I’d get ten calls for people wanting to give up a pet to one call from someone wanting to adopt one. It’s sad. I hope this precious dog has a happy ending.

  3. There needs to be more trainers so that dogs like this can be adopted. I am sure if the dog was not aggressive regardless of the reason why, with training he would have a better chance at being adopted. Being loved by his owner who is ill, is the heartbreaking part. So many cruel, heartless owners just dump their pet and don’t look back, and then others like this who try so many ways to have their dog taken in. Pray that some rescue or individual puts their faith in this dog and takes him into their family.

  4. LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS KIND!!!! This beautiful guy didn’t deserve ending up like this … This is a classic EXAMPLE why THE USA needs to WORRY and ASSIST in FINDING HOMES< RESCUES HERE in THE USA to RESCUE< NURTURE< REHOME >>

  5. How terriblie sad. I pray his human is found so they can be given help and reunited. Fatty doesn’t understand and his human is heartbroken. I’m willing to donate to help them get back together
and stay together. Will all of you help as well? If everyone gave just $5.00 it would ad up and help a lot. Please let’s all help reunite them, give them the best blessing ever, each other. Please keep us updated as to status, this is so heartbreaking…

  6. Hope he can find a new owner and have a happy home. somebody did love him. they tried. they did what they could.
i thought someone stepped up for him . someone at the vets.

  7. There are too many of these situations occurring everyday! Pets left like like this one and the hundreds of other pets that are left behind in a vacant apartment or house no food no water! Tied up to something where they wait for the person to come back! They end up in shelters where if they have not found a home they die!

  8. I am always suspicious of people who just dump their animals – and this is no exception. To leave this dog w/a note is no excuse – if you REALLY love your dog you’d be there for them.
