Discarded like trash: Weary and scared Misty needs a hero

In Tracy, California, Misty was discarded by her family as if she were just another weekly trash pickup. For most of her three years, Misty was tied by a leash outdoors; her ear tips had been chewed away by fly bites and her once beautiful coat matted and dirty. And when it was decided she was no longer part of the landscaping, she was surrendered to the shelter.

The long-haired, female black and tan German shepherd’s story continues. Many of the larger dogs that arrive at the Tracy shelter have trouble finding homes. When overcrowding becomes a problem, sadly the dogs are euthanized. Misty may not have been well socialized – after all most of her life she spent outdoors by herself, and when brought into the shelter  she was so tired and so frightened.

A few days passed and a volunteer noticed Misty. She sat down outside of her kennel and spoke softly; the dog’s demeanor changed. When she was finally able to relax, Misty took a long nap. It was heartbreaking to watch the young pup struggling to figure out what had happened. Where had her family gone and why did they leave her? Now trapped in a kennel, another surrendered dog’s life hangs by a thread.

  1. Misty is still a beautiful German Shepard and rescues, especially would have a wonderful dog to train as a police K-9. Rescues please don’t let this dog fall through the cracks.

  2. Shared….. there needs to be a National Registry that all people who abandon, surrender, abuse or murder an animal gets their name on. Once on there, it is sent out monthly to all shelters, pet stores, breeders and the person is banned from EVER OWNING another pet or LIVING in the same home as a pet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Track her previous owners down and force them to pay her medical bills and to send her to a no kill shelter and then arrest them for animal cruelty!

    • Personally, I would like to see these scumsucks chained to a tree outside and left – let them feel the pain and suffering they caused this gorgeous dog – Misty deserves MUCH better and I truly hope some kind person steps up and gets her out –
