For the last nine-months, Venice, California resident, Tom Calma has been traveling across the United States with his four rescue dogs and one very clever cat. And finally on the last part of the trip, and both animals and human all anxious to be home for Thanksgiving, the unimaginable happened. At a truck stop, Miss Pek managed to sneak away when the dogs were let outdoors to relieve themselves.

It was that moment on November 23, the night before Thanksgiving that Tom’s world turned upside down. At a truck stop in Chiriaco Summit,  a small community and popular travel stop located along Interstate 10 in the Colorado Desert of Southern California, that Miss Pek disappeared. Since 10:30 that night, the devastated traveler hasn’t stopped searching.

Animal advocate, Andrea Neyses, a frequent volunteer at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter, met Calma on Thursday as he continued to check every animal shelter and register Miss Pek’s description wherever he could.

“He’s got all rescued animals and made the trip traveling across USA and on Thanksgiving, he lost his cat at a truck stop. The cat acts like a dog, and the dogs are all trained to behave anywhere. I met him at  the shelter, and he’s been going to every shelter putting the information everywhere.”

Tom has been searching non-stop and is begging for the community’s help to find Miss Pek who he says responds to a whistle call.

“I could see his pain,” stated Andrea. “We cried together, and even though I just met him, I could truly sense his pain.”

Miss Pek is one-year-old, had been wearing an orange collar with three bells, and a double harness with green and black mesh on the top.

“I know there are a lot of lost animals, but a ‘Home for the Holidays’ story would be a good fitter for this time of the year. This man’s pain isn’t just about a lost cat; it’s a life changing missing family member to Tom. We walked out to our cars when we left the shelter, and his little rescue crew were sitting and looking out the window – just waiting,” Andrea told Pet Rescue Report.

Anyone with information is asked to message Tom Calma or message Andrea at 909.754.1265. Please share the photos and accompanying information with rescue organizations, family, friends and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.

  1. I pray that Tom finds his cat soon. Maybe leave an article of clothing or something that has his scent on it as they do that with lost dogs so it might work with his cat. Maybe the cat would remember where Tom and his other fur friends were when he jumped out. Please keep us informed as to any news about this cat.

  2. O PLEASE – this is so heartbreaking – notify the media as this is an excellent idea to be broadcast especially during the holidays as many people would be exposed to Ms. Pek’s disappearance – Mr. Calma must be devastated and I truly hope someone in Colorado has seen her and can help him find his beloved cat.
