A desperate search is underway for a dog who escaped from her crate at Florida’s  Tampa International Airport. Owner Christie Pennell issued a post to the Lost and Found Pets of Hillsborough County Facebook page on October 11:

**************PLEASE HELP*************
Our dog went missing tonight from Tampa International, they were loading her on the plane tonight at 8pm and she “bit through the METAL cage” and she ran into the woods. She is chipped but they took off her collar.

The dog, named “Brady,” may be injured. A subsequent comment on the Facebook post explains:

advised dog got loose Main Terminal, fled West, which is Eisenhower/Veterans expressway area and advised there is a canal/ditch so hard to see, near airside E though of course Brady could have traveled anywhere and apparently is injured (or could be reportedly). She is 60 lbs, female.

ABC Action News reported that Brady was being shipped to Bermuda to join her family who relocated there approximately six weeks ago. Until now, the weather had not been cool enough for Brady (who was staying with family friends) to safely be transported by air to join her family.

Brady’s owners enlisted the help of International Pet And Animal Transportation Association to transport their pet – the company told the dog’s owners that Brady was “calm and docile” when they left her with airport officials. Her owners fear that “something bad” happened to make her chew through her crate.

Anyone who spots Brady is asked to call the Hillsborough County Pet Resources at 813-744-5660.

  1. These airports have the audacity to charge outrageous amounts to take animals and yet they hire the most brain dead and irresponsible idiots to be responsible for the safety of animals. This has happened over and over that pets get loose and the owners are frantic and employees stand around scratching their heads. Something had to happen for a dog to chew through metal – absolutely terrified of the lousy and abusive treatment more than likely. I hope Brady is found safe – the owners did everything right and as par for the course, these deadbeat airlines dropped the ball.

  2. Praying Brady is found safe and sound! Another casualty of the airlines. For what they charge people to transport their pets, they should at least be kept safe!

  3. Dogs escaping from airports happens more often than not. Most airlines handle crated dogs as luggage. I have seen crated dogs placed on conveyor belts. The crated dog is placed in the belly of the plane where luggage are stowed away. The luggage compartment of the plane has no temperature, pressure, and nor sound control. By the time the plane lands, the dog is totally stressed out and looking to escape. The brainless airport workers are clueless there is a living animal in the crate and ignore the fact that the dog will attempt to escape at first chance. I hope Brady is found and unharmed. The airport is responsible for losing Brady due to their negligence and should compensate the owner if Brady is not found or hurt and any inconvenience incurred by the owner.

  4. OMG, SMH @ how careless the airlines are with transportation of pets……

Unlike property, living beings are unique and irreplaceable treasures. Pets deserve better treatment…..,

What were the airline and airport employees doing to frighten a dog so much that metal bars were chewed through??? There had better be a very detailed investigation…..

I hope this little treasure is found alive and reunited with family ASAP!!!!!

  5. So sorry this has happened. I pray she is found safe and fast and that her trip to her new home when found is free and without another incident
