A missing 44-year-old trophy hunter is believed to be dead – according to Tuesday’s publication of the Daily Mail, Scott Van Zyl was last seen a week ago.

Zyl had been hunting with a pack of hunting dogs and a Zimbabwean tracker – he had parted ways with the tracker and later vanished. Zyl’s hunting dogs returned to camp on Friday, but Zyl was nowhere to be found. Searches in the area failed to produce the missing trophy hunter, but a recent discovery indicates that the missing man may have been eaten by crocodiles.

According to the Telegraph,  remains, which are believed to be human, were found in two Nile crocodiles. Zyl’s backpack, and possibly his footprints, were discovered along the banks of the Limpopo River. The crocodiles believed to be responsible for Zyl’s death were shot – the remains found in their stomachs are being forensically tested to see if they are indeed the missing trophy hunter’s.

Though crocodiles typically feed on wild animals, recent rains have led them away from rivers and several people have been killed by them over the course of the past several weeks.

  1. Trophy hunter? That equates to someone who kills just for the thrill of killing and to hang a trophy on the way boasting of his prowess thereby stroking his narcissistic ego. I say his probable death is no loss. One less power seeking, self loathing, maggot SOS in the world.

  2. The only sad part is the crocodiles had to die. One less animal killer now, wish more animals would get the same opportunity.

  3. Well boo hoo!!! Guess that’s what happens when u want to use ur time skulking around looking to kill innocent, beautiful animals so that u can mount them on a wall to show how macho u think u are! I loathe trophy hunting!

    • Wow, your compassion for his two small children and his family is overwhelming. If it were not for game ranches there would be no wild game left in South Africa. Do your research.

      • And why would there NOT be wild game left in South Africa, Gary? Because of unfettered access to wholesale slaughter by “sportsmen”???
He chose a despicable “profession” replete with inherent dangers – made a conscious choice to depart from the relative safety of his guide… and suffered the consequences of his rash decisions, period.

  4. It is always amazing to hear that a trophy hunter is dead – the World and the animal kingdom a better place without these pieces of shit. You can’t call them vermin as it’s insulting to vermin they are way up the tree when comparing to such scum
