Late Wednesday afternoon, a Good Samaritan found five critically ill puppies behind an abandoned home in Atlanta, Georgia. Brought to the county shelter located in Fulton County, the staff and volunteers quickly alerted Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for emergency help. The puppies, weighing barely four pounds and estimated to be no more than six weeks old, were rushed to an emergency veterinary specialty hospital.
“They all have terrible mange, infections, are anemic and one of the pup’s is on oxygen,” Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of the rescue organization updated advocates on Facebook earlier Thursday morning. “All are fighting for their lives. We cannot accurately describe the urgency of this situation. We could not turn our backs, and we hope you won’t either.”
The puppies are now on intravenous nourishment and pain control. The most critical, is one puppy whose body temperature barely reached 94 degrees. It is feared he may be septic, and he is currently on oxygen, however veterinarians are doing everything that can be done to save his life. The prognosis for the puppies survival remains guarded.
The emergency care costs for the puppies has been extremely expensive, and it is hoped funds can be raised to help offset some of the current as well as the ongoing expenses. Check out their photos; how could anyone walk away from these little ones? No one knows what happened to the mother nor if the puppies had been abandoned by a heartless human. Ultimately it makes no difference; these puppies deserve to live and be loved.
