“This is what we do,” says one of the cowboys who has been working non-stop to save livestock trapped in flooded areas in and around Houston, Texas. The hero cowboys are Chance and Rowdy Ward, and they have been canvassing the area on horseback to find livestock trapped in ever-rising water.

On Tuesday, Chance Ward recounted rescuing animals, with his son by his side:

There is a lot of sad out of this storm, but I look at the positive. I have helped in numerous floods with livestock. We were able to swim in and save four of these horses today. One of the greatest feelings in the world is having my best partner by my side. My 17 year old son. If you look you can see us talking as this is no big deal. There are a lot of great cowboys, plenty that are willing to do the same as us. We make livestock our first priority, as I know many are helping people. Thanks to all the hands that help us today.

There have been some sad examples of inhumanity in the area, but they are mostly outweighed by the droves of good people who are helping one another, as well as the helpless creatures who have been impacted by this devastating hurricane.
