A Niagara couple have been accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a four-year-old American Eskimo dog named Kingston. Police were called to the Welland Inn in Welland, Ontario one week ago in reference to a report of a gravely injured dog. Police and the Welland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals searched the hotel and found the dead dog. Kingston was taken away for examination.
The owners, Krystina Paonessa, 22, and her boyfriend, Jeffery Tisi, 31, were arrested on Wednesday according to ChChNews, Disturbing descriptions described the dog died a torturous death. Paonessa advertises on the Internet site Pawsitter as a dog walker and sitter. Tisi’s criminal record reflects a charge of assault 10 months ago.
A necropsy of the dog was performed at the University of Guelph which confirmed he died of severe head trauma. The St.CatherinesStandard stated further testing for a more exact cause of death has been scheduled, and testing will be done on tissue and cells.
Paonessa is not allowed to be within 25 meters (82 feet) of any animal and must undergo a substance abuse assessment. According to court documents, Tisi is also in violation of a probation order. The case remains under investigation. Police ask anyone with information is asked to contact 905-688-4111 ext. 3300.
