A college student, desperate to escape the raging wildfires in Santa Rosa, California, managed to secure her 70-lb dog in a duffel bag and carry him on her back to escape the deadly flames. According to Saturday’s WISH TV, 24-year-old Natasha Wallace could see the fire approaching and she tried to get away, with her beloved pit bull, “Bentley,” in a car, but the situation made it impossible.

Seeing that a car escape would never happen, Wallace returned home to retrieve her bike, and a duffel bag for her four-year-old dog. She recounted what she told her dog to the news station, saying,  “‘Hey man, this is serious, you need to just sit in the bag.’ And he, he hopped right in,”

Bentley stayed in the duffel and Wallace rode for several miles until someone picked them up and drove them out of harm’s way.

Though Wallace lost all of her belongings, she is grateful – she and her best friend managed to get out of the blaze with their lives.
