College student escapes fire with dog on her back

College student hoists 70-lb dog onto her back in a bag to escape fire

A college student, desperate to escape the raging wildfires in Santa Rosa, California, managed to secure her 70-lb dog in a duffel bag and carry him on her back to escape the deadly flames. According to Saturday’s WISH TV, 24-year-old Natasha Wallace could see the fire approaching and she tried to get away, with her beloved pit bull, “Bentley,” in a car, but the situation made it impossible.

Seeing that a car escape would never happen, Wallace returned home to retrieve her bike, and a duffel bag for her four-year-old dog. She recounted what she told her dog to the news station, saying,  “‘Hey man, this is serious, you need to just sit in the bag.’ And he, he hopped right in,”

Bentley stayed in the duffel and Wallace rode for several miles until someone picked them up and drove them out of harm’s way.

Though Wallace lost all of her belongings, she is grateful – she and her best friend managed to get out of the blaze with their lives.

So glad she was able to save her family member and that he actually listened to her. He felt the seriousness of what she was doing to save them both. So many incredible people who go out of their way to save their pet, who is more than just a dog, cat, horse, etc. but a being that is part of their family.

Dogs get it when you are intense. They know they must trust you. Bentley surely understood this was a serious situation. Natasha is a special pet parent.
