A Colorado city has awarded thousands of dollars to a woman whose dogs were seized in 2012. According to the Greeley Tribune, 15  Lhasa apso dogs were seized from Linda Robbins during a traffic stop in mid-August.

Robbins was slapped with numerous charges on the day that she was pulled over, but some were dropped and she was later acquitted of the others. During the time between the stop and when Robbins was acquitted of the charges, the impound fees for her 15 dogs grew to $45,000…an amount that she was unable to immediately pay.

Robbins’ dogs were transferred by the city of Greeley to the Humane Society of Weld County where some were put down and others were adopted out. Robbins filed a court case in 2015 and in February 2016, U.S. Senior District Judge Richard Matsch, issued a judgement and stated, “It is so egregious an injustice as to shock the conscience of this court.”

Judge Matsch determined that Robbins was entitled to damages and on Tuesday, the Greeley City Council approved a settlement of $150,000, reported the Denver Post.

  1. HURRAY!!!! for the little guy: this is totally outrages if those dogs were healthy , had their vaccinations up to date, well cared for Why the hell do this !!! Why not focus on shutting down Puppy Mills in Northern Colorado , as I live in a neighboring state I am aware of PUPPY MILLS in that very area.. What about dog fighting rings… that too goes on in that area…. SHAME on Greeley , and Weld County. As for District Judge Richard Matsch… You are one in a Million in the legal system today!!! More officials of the Court System should stand up of Animal Rights ….

  2. I’m looking at my Lhasa Apso, who owns my heart (and yes, I have other pets that I love) and is lying beside me. If someone did this to him, I would be hard put not to seek each and every one of them out and rid the world of them, beginning with the cop who started the ball rolling for citing this woman for what were obviously a lot of bogus charges, and ending with the scumbags who killed her dogs in that shelter, adopted out others, and kept adding to those fees so she couldn’t take them home, essentially holding them hostage in a police state shake down.

The corruption of a system such as this which was undoubtedly utilized many times against many other citizens is sickening. The difference is that their fees weren’t so egregious because they didn’t have 15 pets, and the shelter probably didn’t undoubtedly murder their pets unjustly for space right off the bat as a result and adopt them out so callously.

$150, 000 isn’t nearly enough in my opinion even though it seems like a lot of money. What they did to this woman, kidnapping and murdering her family members, is heinous. I hope they all burn in Hell.

    • You’re right that $150,000 isn’t enough; however, I’m thankful that it’s that much since many people think they were “just dogs” (that’s not how I feel, of course). Also, it’s highly unlikely that Ms. Robbins will see a lot of the settlement – we all know how much lawyers take (and I work for lawyers so I know).

      • You’re right. What that city and its representatives did to her is beyond reprehensible. The lawyers will take too much of it, and this isn’t nearly enough for the hell they put her through.

I hope each and every one of those bastards who put her through this suffers for it.

  3. What was their initial reason for taking all 15 dogs away from her? Something is missing in the article and how does a shelter who is suppose to protect and try to find homes for these animals, just euthanize some and adopt others out? Whatever this woman did, it is nothing compared to how they treated her dogs.

  4. If she did not abuse them, they never should’ve been taken away. I’m so glad she won but sad the dogs are the ones that suffered. Rest in peace sweet ones.

  5. It’s standard protocol that animals seized for any reason are never adopted out or put down until the court case is settled and this was not the case here….these innocent dogs were this woman’s property until a judge says otherwise! This woman deserves every penny of this settlement!!! Such a sad story,as most are!

  6. Really? $45,000 for 15 dogs what were the charges for? How many of us would be able to pay an amount like that “immediately”? I’m glad she was awarded $150,000, it still doesn’t bring back her babies and most likely doesn’t ease the heartbreak, but it does show the authorities they should be more responsible when seizing someone’s pets!

    • I agree. If the charges were bogus to begin with there shouldn’t have been any fees to pay. Nice if the money rewarded was even more!
