A clever puppy managed to stay safe during a raging house fire in Apex, North Carolina. According to WFMY News, the gray and white pit bull puppy clawed a hole in a sofa and climbed inside of the upholstery to stay safe from the flames which were quickly spreading throughout the home.

The blaze took place on Friday afternoon – when firefighters with the Fairview Fire Department responded to the call, they were able to locate an adult dog, but the puppy was missing. After some searching, the resourceful puppy was located inside of a sofa – amazingly unharmed.

Never discount a dog’s ingenuity!

  1. Glad the house was partially saved and that the mama dog was found. What a clever pup do dig a hole inside the sofa to escape from the fire. I am sure the owners are happy that no lives were lost.

  2. I recall a fire survival story that goes something like this (I might have a few details wrong): The dog went into the bathroom, jumped into the tub and put his nose against the drain in order to get oxygen. As I said, I don’t recall all of the details but I know the dog survived! Dogs are so much smarter (and loyal) than people.
