At the Harbor Animal Care Center in San Pedro, California, a three-year-old German shepherd poses proudly for his picture. This handsome pooch, dubbed Baron, is described as “smart as a whip and very alert.” According to the shelter staff, Baron knows his sit command and accepts offered treats like a gentleman. He is food motivated, may on occasion need correction, but a calm environment, a knowledgeable human companion and lots of love surely would help this boy become a perfect canine citizen.

Baron has displayed cage aggression, but once out of his kennel, he does fine. Since he appears to be food motivated, his subsequent training might just be a breeze.

“… guaranteed you will never tire of looking at his handsome face Please consider rescuing or adopting Baron,” has been posted on this boy’s  Facebook page.

Pet Harbor listing can be viewed here. “I  am an unaltered male, black and tan German Shepherd Dog. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old.
I weigh approximately 78 pounds. I have been at the shelter since Dec 19, 2016.” For more information about this dog, call the Los Angeles Animal Services – Harbor Shelter at (888) 452-7381. Ask for information about animal ID number A1673339Click here to donate to this organization Share Baron’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. • That’s troubling, since yesterday’s description of Baron said he had cage aggression, but once he was out of the cage he was fine. He’s a beautiful dog who deserves better.

      • Cheryl that’s what they told me. When I inquired about a rescue they said they don’t deal with rescues. I repeated and asked again…”you don’t use rescues”? They said no. Again I persisted about Baron being adopted by me and “she” said he is aggressive. Then why are they trying to find a home for this dog if they tell me he’s not adoptable? SMH!

      • I just called the shelter. As of January 27th, (12:51 EST) Baron is available for adoption. Only the supervisor there can say a dog is not adoptable and there are no notes for that. Whoever does adopt Baron, however must sign a waiver as to his past behavior (which I suppose was his cage aggression) but he can be adopted. Please continue to share this boy’s plight and let’s help him find a home.

      • Cheryl thank you, but, I don’t understand why I was told otherwise. By giving wrong info Baron’s changes of being adopted are slim. Why did “she” tell me he’s not adoptable? The supervisor needs to be told of this.

      • If he truly wasn’t available for adoption or to a rescue group, he would not still be alive 6 wks after he was taken in.

  1. I would not believe any thing the staff in office say, unless you were t here to see for yourself, remember these people don’t give a,damn about having their dogs adopted. They rather kill them and profit from it. Also GS do not do well in cages, I know I volunteered in a,shelter. Once they are out they are gentle creatures, very loving.

  2. Don’t call just go get him.He has a thing about that is just something he has adapted to. Don’t put him in a cage. Now they have labeled him and now they are giving him a hard time. Please rescue him. They have an attitude against him and I hope he does not pay for it with his life, sign the waiver rescues him and get him out of there. All he needs is some obiedience and or behavior training They do not know his past concerning cages or freedom. He’s a larege dog. Cages can be intimading.

  3. Just go get him.Sign the waiver and get him out of there. They have an attitude against this dog and he needs out of there.Dog has an issue eith cages. That can be fixed. No Cages in his life.LET FREEDOM RING.

    • I have updated Baron’s story with a video. Gosh … he’s just beautiful. I don’t see anything mean about this boy. Check it out and keep sharing his story please.
