Her name is Luna, and the blind senior Chihuahua was brought in as a stray on January 12. Lucky for Luna, she was chipped and her family was called; unlucky for Luna, her family didn’t want her anymore. A volunteer, brought to tears just watching the frightened sightless Chihuahua who seemed to have given up on life, posted the following on Facebook hoping to attract attention for Luna’s desperate rescue plight:

“Sh*t out of luck little blind chi who just faces the wall and growls when anyone approaches! She has about as much chance of getting adopted as she has of driving a car. To make matters worse, she is at the back of the shelter and a non-public medical building so no one’s ever going to get to see her. I thought she was incredibly cute though and pray that maybe some kind soul will take pity on her and her grumpy predicament and get her the heck out of there!!”

And her advocate continued:

“She is age 10, blind as a bat, grumpy. That may be the good news!! She is tiny anyway and probably has no teeth so her bites, if she follows through on those growls, will probably amount to little more than being gummed!”

Luna’s Pet Harbor listing can be found here. “My name is Luna and I am described as a female, tan Chihuahua – Smooth Coated. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old. I have been at the shelter since Jan 12, 2017. For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Baldwin Park at (626) 962-3577. Ask for information about animal ID number A5025190.  A Facebook page to follow her plight can be found here. Share Luna with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. We are Luna’s only hope.

  1. No doubt since the owners didn’t want her they most likely left her off someone to fend for herself. POS’s couldn’t take her to a shelter? People suck!

  2. LOOK! This Senior Blind Dog is in real need of a kind. loving, understanding, home for the dog’s end of days. Please, don’t allow the Senior Dog to spend the rest of its short life behind bars in a animal shelter. Have mercy for this dog.

  3. No doubt the owners dropped her off somewhere. Couldn’t they have dropped her off at a shelter instead of abandoning her?
Letting her roam around to fend for herself is just horrible. POS’s!

    • I agree with you Linda, they are dreadful people, totally irresponsible. Poor love. I hope she is soon adopted by a kind person or family so that she can have the stability and happiness in her life that she so deserves.

  4. Maybe you can contact Leave No Paws Behind. Not sure if they are in your area, but if this little senior is in dire need, they may go out of their way to accommodate her.

  5. Please help save Luna. Blind and thrown out of her home where she knew her way around and felt secure.
I have a blind dog and she gets around as well as my other dogs. She goes in and out the doggie door, up and down the stairs, walks through the house and dodges anything in her way. I would never let her be hurt like these miserable creatures that were supposed to love and protect poor Luna have done to her. I wish nothing but horrible things for them for the rest of their miserable lives. Someone, please step in and help Luna. Don’t let them kill that precious little girl. $10. to a rescue.

  6. So can’t a rescue group find a foster for Luna?? I’d gladly foster this little gal but I’m clear across the country! The description stating Luna has as much chance getting adopted as she does driving a car was downright cruel!!!
Come on, find Luna a foster home at least! This breaks my heart……

    • The comment was made to get attention. It worked. Most rescue groups are overflowing. A foster person needs to step forward and volunteer before a rescue group will step in. They also need pledges for her care. To help Luna get more attention, it would be very helpful if you shared this article and Luna’s Facebook page on your page. Can you do that? Thanks.

  7. Poor baby. I would love to adopt her. I live in Northern CA (near SF).

If transportation can be arranged, she would be welcome in my home……..

  8. Sickening that her family would do that to her. Her story should be posted in the local newspaper so that wveyone who knows her family can see what their true colours are & how they abandoned their furry family member! I hope Karma gets them a million times!!

  9. I would love to have her but she is too far away. (I’m on the east coast). I already have 2 larger dogs and a 14yr old Chi who is also grumpy, partially blind and yes, snaps at me as she loves my fiance’ more than me now.
Why is it these little ones have to be so far away. She is only acting like she is because the sounds and smells are not familiar to her.
I’m praying someone sees her bio and is willing to open up their hearts ans home to her.

  10. I hope she get a loving and careful foreverhome ❤❤❤this Little dog deserves tthis ???????????????????? Hugs from Sweden ❤❤❤ You are so sweet Luna ????????????

  11. Praying to Jesus Yeshua to move someone’s heart to adopt her not just foster her because she will have to move twice from the shelter.Far better to move only one time. If they have a dog that can be her “EYES” to show her around the new house that would be even better.

  12. Poor Luna. I think its a terrible thing that the owners of this poor dog have washed there hands of her.
I believe at her age the owners of this dog that they found on her Microchip should of taken her back till the end of her days. Very sad! Dogs get very attached to there owners, have feelings, and sadly get there hearts broken at times too.
I really hope Luna finds a new owner, that will love her and stick with her till the end of her days, yes it may b a challenge to own a dog like this, but it will also b a rewarding one.
I wish this dog the very best of luck in life, and hope she finds the right person soon.
    Love to Luna. X

  13. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to tell you how I feel about this specific post on Facebook. This terrified, BLIND, 10-year-old, female Chihuahua “LUNA” was literally mortified & confused at where she was at that particular time. But with that in mind, why write such an evil, vindictive post & possibly endangering her at the same time? Whomever pinned those hurtful words on her character, not even for once thinking that was the particular way the dog was thinking at the time she had met her. (If indeed, in fact, she had met her). Despite all that, a “poor unsuspecting human” felt pity on her soul & came and got her & took her home to her final forever home. In the end, success. But at what price?

  14. I saw the story where Luna got adopted by Someone who will love her forever
Thank you so much for adopted her and letting her into your heart. Also thank you to people who put her story out there so she could get adopted
The people who gave her up are cruel and selfish people.would you give up your children if they went blind? You don’t deserve such a sweet dog and you should never have another animal again. They are not toys. They have feelings just like people do.You don’t just throw them away just because they get old and go blind. You are very selfish people.
