In a tragic and heartbreaking situation, a blind, maggot infested ShihTzu was found wandering the street in Citrus County, Florida on Sunday. According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, two more dogs were found living in “very horrific” conditions. The animals were seized; on Wednesday, their owner was arrested.

The ShihTzu named Trixie was found by a Good Samaritan who brought her home and called the authorities. The Facebook page of the Citrus County’s Sheriff’s Office tells the disturbing story:

“This past Sunday evening Animal Control Officers seized three dogs, two of which were in very, very horrific condition. A 9 lb Shih Tzu was found in the road wandering a neighborhood.”

“A good Samaritan held the dog to keep it safe and waited for ACOs to arrive. The dog is totally blind (and was in the middle of the street) but worse than that was the body condition of the dog. She was severely underweight but she also had mats and dreadlocks caked and encrusted with feces and urine hanging from 95% of her body that, when shaved off by the vet, weighed 3 lbs AND HAD MAGGOTS LIVING UNDER THE MATTED FUR. The vet and her staff said they’ve never seen any case this bad. They even dug a piece of 5” wire out of one of the dreadlocks.”

The description continued:

“The ACOs that responded knocked door to door and eventually found a neighbor that recognized the dog and showed them where it lived but the owners were not home. Two additional dogs were found in the back yard, one of which was paralyzed in her back end and unable to stand or walk, was also badly matted and blind. The third dog only showed minor signs of neglect but ACOs later learned she hadn’t been there nearly as long as the other two.”

The chow mix and pit bull also showed signs of neglect. Veterinarians who examined the dogs stated they had never seen a case of neglect as what happened to Trixie. The chow was also blind and paralyzed in his rear quarters. The pit bull was in better condition, however also showed signs of neglect.

Joi-Marie Richheimer, 45, of Crystal River was arrested on Wednesday and faces two felony counts of animal cruelty. The dogs are currently under veterinarian care. Little Trixie has been bathed and cleaned up – she is reportedly feeling much better.

  1. This so called ‘woman’ needs to feel just like those poor dogs felt – stick her useless ass in a cage, no food, no water, no bathing, let her feel the damn maggots crawl over her, let her teeth rot and fall out, let her deteriorate to an unrecognizable hunk of trash. If I had my way, THAT is exactly what she would get. Those poor dogs deserved MUCH better and I thank the good Samaritan who stepped up and literally saved them.

  2. Glad these 3 furbabies were rescued and are getting the care and food they all desperately need…….

SMH: WTF is wrong with people (using the term loosely)???

If you don’t want to care for pets, don’t have them……. If you do choose to have pets, you MUST care for them…….

Hope this POS gets severely punished for the neglect these furbabies suffered…….

  3. I’m glad this POS is being charged, it’s appalling the condition she has let these poor dogs get into! One horrible thing, however, people knew whose dog this was and why didn’t they report this abuse long before this poor dog got loose? People, if you see abuse don’t just ignore it! I hope she receives a punishment worthy of the crime and not just a slap on the wrist!

  4. Leave this woman in the same condition she left these dogs in and then put her in jail with the dog loving inmates. She deserves no mercy.

  5. Hopefully the lousy excuse of a human….. more commonly known as a MONSTER will be locked away for many years, heavily fined for all the vet expenses and placed with a LIFE TIME BAN on ever owning or living in the same home as a pet. There needs to be a national registry for monsters to be placed on so vets, pet stores, breeders, etc will not sell or adopt to these wasted use of skin!

  6. Praying for these three abused babies; hoping for healing and a brighter future for all of them. As for this woman, I hope she gets an animal lover judge on his worst day so she can receive the maximum punishment. Wish the max penalty was much much harsher…but until the day that happens, at least let her get the worst possible now. She doesn’t deserve mercy as she showed none.

  7. I am sorry, but I would like to beat the day lights out of this bitch. She look evil . Hope she has nightmares for the rest of her pathetic life.

  8. You fucken ugly cunt!!!!!!I SO wish I could take my extreme anger out on you….I can think of many things to do to you!!! Hopefully they’ll take of this hag in jail!!!!!

  9. There are not enough words in the English language for this vile vermin! Do the world a favor and euthanize this sewer scum! POS!
