In Barrow County, Georgia a 44-year-old man was allegedly shot and killed on Sunday while he was out walking his dogs. Auburn Police arrested Larry Russell Bates, 46, for killing Paul Wilson because of a suspected obsessive belief that Wilson let his dogs defecate in Bates’ yard.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, Bates, who lives in Auburn, is facing charges of felony murder and animal cruelty for shooting and killing Wilson and one of Wilson’s dogs. The victim’s widow, Beth Wilson stated Bates would repeatedly accuse her husband of letting their dogs use his yard as a bathroom. Beth stated it wasn’t their dogs, but had offered to clean his yard. For awhile, Beth thought the argument was over; after all the men had shaken hands two weeks ago, and both agreed to move on. The Wilson’s home is situated across the street from the residence Bates shared with his girlfriend.

Tragically on July 4, Wilson was shot in the head and torso and one of the family dogs were lying dead near 149 Crest Pointe Court. Beth rushed over to her husband as he took his last dying breath. A Go Fund Me account has been set up for Beth to help with funeral costs.

Bates is being held in the Barrow County Detention Center. Auburn Police Lt. Chris Hodge states the investigation is ongoing.

  1. What a FUCKING idiot……..

Keep this POS locked up forever….., just can’t fix stupid……

Condolences to the Wilson family for your tragic losses.

  2. OMG! What a dangerous lunatic! I guess he feels that slaughtering a man and his dog was worth his freedom! I hope this depraved asshole NEVER sees the light of day EVER again! This is beyond petty, this is beyond reasonable, this mans actions is unjustifiable and now he better spend the rest of his life behind bars! Prayers to the family and friends of this man and his dog! SMH

  3. My deepest sympathy to Paul Wilson’s family. Unfortunately, there are more POS like Larry Bates than you might think. We had a neighbor who was an ex-cop (quit before he got fired which means he still had a permit to carry) who harassed us to the point where we no longer felt safe and we moved. He still had friends in the police department so calling the cops on him would have been useless.

    • I too had a neighbor once who was on the police “auxiliary” and thought his sh*t didn’t stink. Made life miserable for us because he blamed our dog for any barking he heard in the neighborhood. Luckily he moved because the “neighborhood was too noisy”. but we had considered moving after all the 9 pm knocks on the door going on about our barking dog (who was in the house and NOT barking until he came to the door) threatening having our dog taken away and put to sleep. It’s frightening the nut jobs out there with a gun.

    • That would be too quick, he needs to spend a long time thinking about what he did in prison and then let the inmates have at him.

  4. This is beyond horrible. My condolences to Mr Wilson’s family, his poor wife! Larry Russell Bates deserves the death penalty for this! What an evil monster! May he burn in Hell!

  5. Every fucking asset owned including his house should be sold and given to the widow. No pity for the shooter or his family

  6. “Biblical” reciprocity = death penalty. There is absolutely NO redemption for a mind as sick, depraved, and twisted as this POS….

  7. Larry Russell Bates has proven he is incapable of being out in society – to kill over something so irrelevant proves this man needs to be locked up for the rest of his life where he can interact with the lowest of society is exactly where he belongs.
