On Monday, a tiny blonde Chihuahua accidentally slipped down into a storm drain at the corner of Cypress Avenue and Wohlstetter Steet in Riverside, California and would have drowned had it not been for a crew of dog loving heroes from Animal Control, CT Motorsports and a construction worker. Chihuahua's hero

According to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, local children spotted the dog paddling furiously through a swift current and called Officer John Hergendreder for help. When he arrived, he noticed the female Chihuahua was trapped on an island of debris inside the storm channel, but both sides of the wash had high safety fences. The walls of the wash were about 15 feet high and did not feature concrete ramps that would give him an easier way to reach the dog.  Using a cat carrier, a rope and some treats to attract the puppy, Officer Hergendreder lowered the carrier with a rope, but the contraption scared the dog as she fell backwards into the moving current.Chihuahua's hero 2

That’s when the crew members of  Cali Touch Motorsport brought out another ladder in the hopes they could help bring the dog to safety.  The dog was initially able to hang onto the later, but soon become very tired; that’s  when Juan Rodarte climbed down the ladder and was able to secure a rope around the dog’s neck. Safely in the arms of Officer Hergendreder, the dog was quickly transported to the Jurupa Valley shelter where she has been examined and is reported to be doing fine. Officer Hergenreder said he was humbled by the awesome work of the CT Motorsports crew and the construction worker. It was a group effort saving an innocent little life, and all of these men who stepped up to the task.chihuahua's hero 3
