His name is Clyde, and the kind and gentle Aussie, 17-years-old, was surrendered to the East Valley Shelter in California by his owners on Sunday. The senior’s plight touches all of our hearts as compassionate animal advocates and friends question how anyone could drive their dog to a busy shelter, take off his collar and walk away after so many years together? Sadly, dogs are left behind much too often, and even more tragic are the seniors left to mourn in noisy shelters once they realize their families are gone forever. Some are lucky; some find new homes.

This dog’s Pet Harbor link can be found here. “My name is Clyde and I am a neutered male, black and tricolor Australian Shepherd mix. The shelter thinks I am about 17 years old. I weigh approximately 63 pounds. I have been at the shelter since Jan 29, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call
Los Angeles Animal Services – East Valley Shelter at (888) 452-7381. Ask for information about animal ID number A1678905. A Facebook page can be followed here. An alternate page can be found here.

There has been an offer to help pay for any expenses for Clyde for the remainder of his life. Please share this boy’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives; the rescue community is Clyde’s only hope, and whether he has one week, one month or years to live, this boy surely deserves better than what has just occurred.

For additional information including veterinary records made available by the shelter, interested adopters are urged to call:

  1. My heart breaks for this poor boy. How cruel and heartless his owners were to just abandon him. I pray that he can live the remainder of his days with a family that will give him love and care.

  2. Jerks my 17 year old fur baby has developed bone cancer and i have had to make the heartbreaking decision to help her cross the rainbow bridge. Those are the cruelest kind of people to abanod their baby at the time in his life when he needs them the most

  3. So what was their excuse? How do you explain why you are leaving behind a faithful 17 year old dog? There is NO excuse for this, they are just heartless! Hopefully Clyde will find his way out and live his remaining days receiving the love he so much deserves. To the family that left him behind, I hope they are never allowed to have another pet!

  4. Well!!! Well!!! Another Southern California “Guppy Family” toss a living and loving soul away, turn around and leave,,, go out and get another puppy… Hope this family doesn’t have grandparents, or a mom and dad …. ONE guess where they will be headed when the time comes for the aged Senior to need a little more tender care at the crucial time in their lives!!! It certainly WON”T be given to them by This Particular Family of Inconsiderate Ass-Holes!!!!

  9. Pennydaschund will you please get off the “Southern California” kick and concentrate on doing something to help these dogs..!
There is cruelty and heartlessness all over the world. There are many wonderful
dog parents and rescue groups who take in older dogs, injured dogs, special needs dogs. And most of their shelters are no-kill. You are not the only one who cares about animals!
