On Thursday, New York’s Jamestown Police Department announced the arrest of three people believed to be responsible for the severe neglect of a dog who was found at a structure fire. According to the Department, Jamestown Fire and Jamestown Police responded to a structure fire at 12 Mt. Vernon Place on Thursday morning.

The residents of the house were able to get out safely and firefighters rescued two dogs from inside of the home. One of the dogs rescued from the fire was found to be suffering from “severe neglect.” A toy poodle named Mia was discovered with extremely matted fur; she was also covered in feces.

The dog was also found to be suffering from a large abdominal cyst and she had large sores on her body. The authorities seized the dog and transported her to a veterinarian for urgent care.

The disturbing discovery led to the arrest of three people, identified as 31-year-old David M. Wright, 39-year-old William L. Wright, and 40-year-old Lisa A. Bortz. All three people were taken to jail and they are charged with animal cruelty.

  1. How can people have dogs if they leave them in conditions like this? Would they do that to themselves? Probably well feed scum who only think of themselves. They must be charged, put in jail and never allowed to own another animal.

  4. The authorities, the prosecutor and the judge need to STEP UP and get justice for Mia – no slap on the hands, they need jail time – this neglect is despicable and these three hunks of sewer slime need to be held responsible – this poor dog suffered greatly – she deserves a safe loving home – exactly what she didn’t have before. Their mug shots should be posted in every shelter and rescue group in the eastern hemisphere.

  5. THANK YOU for arresting these monsters…… had their filthy shack not burned these poor animals would have probably died of neglect. Do not let these scum creatures out!!! Keep them locked forever, if not longer!
