Animal welfare agency speaks out about rumors

The Best Friends Animal Society has updated their petition, asking for the Houston SPCA to be held accountable to a list of “life-saving guarantees” for the dogs rescued after Hurricane Harvey, to relfect that it had “nothing to do with the unsubstantiated rumors” which have been circulating about the Houston SPCA’s plans to kill pit bulls.

The animal welfare agency wrote:

Update: We want to be clear that our call to action regarding the HSPCA has nothing to do with the totally unsubstantiated rumors that have been floating around the internet that the HSPCA is killing animals in Beaumont.

The wild he-said-she-said gossip began on the evening of the 2nd as the HSPCA took over the management of the temporary animal shelter at the Ford Center. Best Friends has not, and is not accusing the HSCPA of killing animals during the storm or the chaos immediately following.

Allegations that the Houston SPCA intends to put down the rescue pit bulls have been widely circulated on social media for the past several days. The shelter has denied those rumors and issued a release about the allegations:

The Houston SPCA has been the subject of a vicious and false rumor that claims that we are euthanizing the very animals we are currently rescuing. This is unequivocally false. Our teams on are on the ground working tirelessly to rescue, care for and reunite pets with owners displaced by this catastrophe.

Despite the Houston SPCA’s denial of the rumors and the Best Friends update stating that their petition has nothing to do with the rumors, many people still fear that pit bulls will be euthanized before owners have a chance to reclaim them.

  1. Well IF misinformation is out there then it can only be blamed on the head of the AC. She is the one that has given several interviews prior to Harveys appearance that she murders pitts rather than try to adopt. She is still running the AC so there you go

  2. Houston SPCA can say whatever they want – it is well known the director murders dogs daily, especially if they are pit bulls whom no chance is given – so if these are just rumors – PROVE IT!
