The condition of a dog, found alone at an abandoned house in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The dog, dubbed Stanley, had clearly been surviving without care for far too long.

This week, the Sebastian County Humane Society wrote about the heartbreaking discovery:

Friends, today this angel came into our care. One of the fort smith Animal Control Officers had found him at an abandoned house where he appeared to just be waiting for someone to find him. Needless to say it has been an extremely emotional day for everyone involved and many tears have been shed.

Stanley was rushed to a veterinarian for care – aside from his skeletal condition, he was discovered to be infested with fleas and suffering with heartworms. Amazingly, the blatant neglect that Stanley has managed to survive has not diminished his love for people. The shelter wrote:

Throughout the whole process, all he has wanted was to be close to the people helping him. He is incredibly sweet.

Stanley has a long road to recovery ahead of him. Anyone hoping to make a donation towards his veterinary expenses can do so at this link to the animal shelter.

  1. Find out who lived in that house last and GET THEM!!! Fine them and give them a life time ban on every owning or living with a pet again!

  2. WE have become a SICK! SICK! Nation… and are going to Hell IN A BASKET damn fast!!! our legislators don’t give one dump about anything other than their health care plan, (for their own benefit only) their pension’s and the hell with straightening out the mess our country is in , there should be strict laws about dumping, burning, starving, beating animals. and they should be held accountable by the legal system … Did I just say legal system … ha ha ha ha!!!

    • I AGREE 10001%+. HUMANS ARE A DISEASE. CAUSING ALL THE WORLDS PROBLEMS. ANIMALS ARE PRECIOUS AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO TO THEM. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  3. This is Arkansas and absolutely nothing will be done to find whoever dumped Stanley – he was left to die by some filthy dirtbags – I truly hope he fully recovers and is either saved by a rescue group or adopted by a loving family – I do not trust ANY so called shelter in any southern state since they seem to consider animals nothing more than trash and are way too willing to kill them.

    • I agree. This is NOT A no kill Humane Society. Their “goal” is to become no kill by May 2018. So, I wanted to donate for this pup but they just took away from that. I hope a rescue gets him instead. I hate Humane Society’s. They are far from Humane.

  4. This is becoming a national epidemic, Move and leave your pet behind to fend for it’s self. Someone knows who lived in that house, someone knows where they went! It’s time they start finding these irresponsible people and make them pay for what they have done! Until our judicial system starts taking this abuse seriously, more animals will end up like Stanley and the ones who do this sort of thing will keep getting away with it!
