Abandoned and left to die in an orange grove in South Texas, Cara’s days were numbered. The emaciated dog had been dying a slow, painful death, and no one cared- that is until a Good Samaritan spotted her and could not turn her back on a life who had not a single prospect for survival.

“We saw the photos and videos, and we just could not stand back and not help poor Cara,” posted Rescue Dogs Rock NYC co-founder Stacey Silverstein, on the organization’s Facebook page Monday evening. “We agreed to help Cara and her rescuers went back for her.”

When rescued, Cara had wire wrapped around her body and collar. It appeared she had been chained at some point before she likely had been dumped in the open field and left to die. Suffering from serious skin issues including welts and scabs all over her body, she was filthy with a sickening infestation of fleas and ticks. For most of her life, Cara had obviously been neglected and when she was no longer useful as a recent breeding machine, had been thrown away like trash.

“But Cara fights through her pain and just wants the love of humans, even after suffering at the hands of evil,” Stacey added. “It amazes us as how dogs have such forgiveness in their hearts. Humans could learn so very much from these innocent souls.”

On Tuesday morning, Cara was transported to the organization’s San Antonio vet partner for life saving medical care. Besides her skin issues, the dog also suffers from anemia, related tick diseases and dehydration. Her treatment will address all of her medical needs.

  1. RDR of NYC to the rescue again. Tireless, selfless individuals who have made such an impact on the lives of cast off, abandoned, abused and tortured animals. We thank you for your dedication and hard work for all the animals you’ve dealt with and are still working with. Your vet partners are also the best and right there to help when they receive the call from you. God bless all of you.

  3. Well of Course it is AGAIN “TEXASS” NUMBER 1 state in the USA for abandonment, horrific neglect and abuse of ” what is supposed to be a companion animal and pet” what the hell is the matter with the population there… was it mercury in the paint!!! The whole State should be ashamed and Make every effort to rectify this Horrific Moral Issue that is plaguing THIS WHOLE STATE!!! Do the people down there not have an ounce of respect…compassion, or a sense of decency down there … ? these poor animals are throw away , disposable at will. the same as your children from the new of the murder’s of small children there too… despicable at the very least!!

  4. Someday, somehow and some way these miserable excuses for humans will pay dearly for the pain and suffering they have put Cara and other animals through. I only wish there was a bounty on animal abusers – they do not deserve to live. And once again if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC Cara would have died – they seem to be one of the few rescue groups who REALLY come through. Hope Cara fully recovers and gets a safe loving home. Also hope the bastards that used, abused and dumped her get a full dose of lethal justice.

    • Rescue Dogs Rock NYC is a fabulous rescue. I recently read that their veterinarian bills are something like $30,000 a WEEK. That’s insane! But it means they’re helping many, many dogs who would have otherwise died. If you can, Nancy, please consider a donation to this rescue. I’ve given them $450 this year – wish I could do more.
