When a woman from Emporia, Kansas went out to check her mail late last week, she never expected to find a frightened little guinea pig huddled in the back. The woman was shocked with whomever left the helpless little guy – no water and no food, and for a moment she thought maybe the little one had somehow become lost. Hey, one never knows with the odd ways rescuers have reported saving pets and the strange predicaments they somehow manage to find themselves trapped.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrived and as the tiny lost soul cuddled in the deputy’s arm, who couldn’t fall for a little one so adorable? And the little guinea pig was taken to the Emporia Animal Shelter where staff members named her Rosita – because of her very red eyes. After her veterinarian visit, Rosita was given a clean bill of health and fortunately suffered no issues from her scary mailbox prison.

As it turned out, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office stated Rosita was deliberately abandoned in the mailbox, and her owner now faces animal cruelty charges:

“21-6412. Cruelty to animals.
(a) Cruelty to animals is:

(2) knowingly abandoning any animal in any place without making provisions for its proper care;”

This lucky little pet will be available for adoption as soon as the case against her owner is adjudicated.

  1. My god, what fucked up people. That poor little thing. Why dont people have the decency to try and find others who would love to adopt their pets. ???????????????????????????? I’d love to get my hands on people that do that.

  2. SWIFT JUSTICE for THE CULPERT!!!! I am happy the little ‘Pig” made it without freezing , roasting, or heart attack!!!! Good Job Law enforcement !!!

  3. What a jerk to do this! Piggies are so sweet and gentle. If I didn’t have all these rescued cats, I’d love a couple of piggies. They need a companion, though. They can actually grieve to death if left by themselves. In some countries, it’s actually illegal to have a piggie without a companion. Seriously!

  4. Who does something like this! I ever opened up my mail box an found a fuzzy little critter in it, I would probably have a heart attack! Did someone take this little guy from someone and do this to be mean or is this someone’s disturbed way of getting rid of an unwanted pet! It’s disgusting no matter what the reason!

  5. Another example of the human trash in this world. Rosita was saved Thank God, but personally, this ‘owner’ needs some serious street justice dealt to them – hope they get it.

  6. if i opened my mail box and somebody stashed a cute furry pet in there,
that would be the best day of my life
