Thanks to non-stop calls from concerned neighbors, a German shepherd who was abandoned in a man’s garage was found and saved. According to Tuesday’s WTKR News, when officers with Virginia Beach Animal Control visited a house on the 800 block of Gadwall Court, nobody answered the door.

Repeated visits to the home, over the course of the next few days, revealed that nobody had come home to take care of the dog who was trapped in the garage. After obtaining a search warrant, officers were able to access the dog inside of the garage – they discovered that the area was strewn with feces and urine and the conditions were indicative that the dog had not been provided with care.

The black German shepherd, named “Knight,” was removed from the residence – a day later, the dog’s owner, identified as 47-year-old Anthony Smith, was located and he relinquished custody. Smith is facing a charge for  failure to care for a companion animal. The dog rescued from the garage has been sent to an out-of-state rescue agency.

  1. Bless the neighbors for being diligent and continuously calling until something was done. I hope they put the POS owner of this beautiful dog away for a long while.

  2. What a POS! If it wasn’t for the concerned neighbors and the officers this poor dog may have died from starvation and neglect. Why do these assholes wait until the law catches up with them to finally relinquish their pets!
