When Gavin, a black Labrador retriever mix, was abandoned – he desperately tried to chase after the car as it sped away from him. Though he tried with all his might, his four legs were no match for a car which was driven by someone who didn’t want to be caught.

A woman witnessed the heartbreaking scene and fortunately, she was able to capture the broken-hearted dog before he was hit by another vehicle in his desperate quest to stay with the person who abandoned him. The good Samaritan likely saved Gavin’s life, but she had nowhere to keep him, so now, he sits in a lonely boarding facility, wondering what he did to deserve the loss of everything, and everyone, that he once knew.

Gavin is read to be adopted to a new family thanks to the Forgotten Pet Advocates who ensured that he was fully vetted and microchipped. Gavin weighs approximately 58 pounds and he is estimated to be under two years of age. According to those who have met him, he is “as sweet as he can be.”

You can help Gavin by offering to foster, or adopt. Gavin is located in the Houston, Texas, area. Questions or offers to help should be sent via email to the:  [email protected]

  1. This is so heartbreaking, How can someone be so heartless! Here’s hoping this beautiful boy finds a loving home, someone that won’t leave him by the side of the road to run after their car ever again.

    • IKR! I worked at a Walgreens where someone left two seniors behind the building. They stayed there from what we could tell overnight. Both never left thinking their owners were coming back. Thankfully they were both adopted together by a loving family. I recall seeing a video of GS being dropped off at a shelter by a person driving a SUV. The poor thing was running after the car. To this day I often wonder what happened to that GS.

  2. Heartbreaking. Gavin loved his people more than he loved himself and this is what he gets in return. I hope he can find a young family with kids who will love him for the rest of his life. Thank you to the Good Samaritan who saved him.

  3. Too sad!!! Thankfully he was rescued. Labs are the sweetest dogs and very loyal. I have had 2 mixed labs. Shame, shame on person who dumped him. If you can’t care for your pet reach out, try to find a place for them, they are like children dependent on you.

  4. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP GAVIN!! I HAVE HEARD THROUGH FACEBOOK THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOMES IN HOUSTON AND PEOPLE ARE JUST ABANDONING THERE ANIMALS ANYWHERE BECAUSE THEY CAN’T AFFORD TO KEEP THEM OR THE SHELTER COST TO TURN THEM IN. PLEASE HELP THIS POOR DOG IN NEED AND OTHERS JUST LIKE HIM.

    • I live in the Houston area. There are rescues and people who will do whatever it takes to help an animal in need all over our city. There is no excuse ever to just dump an animal!

  5. What a heart wrenching story. I can’t even begin to understand how anybody could do this to a dog. God bless him. Is anybody asking to take him?

  6. What a cold hearted person, not caring is Gavin was hit by a car, lonely, saddened, confused… humans who lack even a smitch of compassion have minds that are of Satan. I’m so glad Gavin was rescued before he was harmed and is safe in boarding. I know he’s confused, wondering why or how this all happened. Hopefully he won’t loose his spirit, and will be adopted or fostered quickly. Paws crossed sweet Gavin!!! Hopefully horrific things will happen to the person who did this to him, and that they will turn around finding themselfs homeless and alone, wondering ‘why?’…

  7. How about someone who feels sad for him, offers to foster. Our 5th dog is always a foster. Rescue takes care of medical expenses, fosters get free puppy kisses til the dog find it forever home. Foster!
