The Hingham Police Department in Massachusetts shared three photos of an abandoned dog on their Facebook page that had been found in a cage. The dog was found on 158 Downer Avenue in Hingham at mid morning on Monday, and authorities are hoping someone recognizes the adorable pooch.Hingham PD2

“Recognize me? This dog was found in this cage with blanket, leash, food, dog coat and toys on side of road near 158 Downer Ave. at 11:19am today. Had been there less then an hour. It had no microchip,” the police posted on their Facebook page.

In less than one day, the photos and brief explanation of the dog’s abandonment garnered more than 6,500 shares and numerous offers for adoption. Although the overwhelming majority of the comments condemned the owner for abandoning their pet on the side of the road, some people questioned if the owner was afraid the dog would be euthanized if brought to a shelter, if they had been refused trying to surrender their dog at a shelter or if he/she had been protecting the dog from domestic violence. Regardless of the reason, abandoning any animal is illegal and quite frankly a cruel deed. There are always alternatives.Hingham PD

According to the Hingham Police Department, the dog had only been on the side of the road for less than an hour and had no microchip. Inside of his cage, were his blanket, leash, food, dog coat and toys.He had no serious injuries. The dog has been taken to the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 781.749.1212.

  1. At the very least this little man WAS NOT Maimed , Murdered, Dismembered, and whoever placed him there was at least considerate enough leave him in a safe container with air to breath, not in the blazing heat of the day, or freezing cold, his little items were placed with him …. Sad but not a death sentence like so many of our little abandoned friends face!!! am so glad the police took him to a SAFE HAEBOE and he will have a Chance at a new LIFE!!! Not a bait dog, or burned alive!!!I for one am happen that the party gave him a second chance at the very least!!!!

    • Look, obviously I don’t like this…but, first it’s more than SOME SCUMBAGZ DO before abandonment! And, the F’N police should spend THIS MUCH TIME on the TORTURE FREAKS & MURDERERS OF ANIMALS!

      • I agree with U 100%! The brutal things and torture done to all animals that just goes by the wayside!!! I am a very strong animal protector and believer of JUSTICE for ABUSE , for the looks of the little guy … I think it was something … that made the individual feel the need to see the little guy get another place >>> a=ASAP > >> for the safety of the dog immediately… dog good shape… decent and clean blanket… toys … Nice portable container…. and I would venture to bet they were close by to watch that no harm or imminent danger was present!!!

  2. This looks like someone loved their dog but was desperate for whatever reason to be rid of it. How about making a better choice? Goodness knows what could have happened to the little guy had the police not come and found him. I’m glad he is safe, but to whomever did this, what were you thinking?

  3. Well, what about after he’s eaten the food or if he spills his water; and no-one responded in just one hour. This little animal is actually lucky he was found so quickly and it’s sad he was abandoned, but maybe he can find a good home now. Sad.
