Missing dog reunited with owner after four years

Four very long years ago, a dog named “Emmy,” disappeared from her home in Orlando, Florida. After months turned into years, all hope of ever finding the missing dog faded away.

Everything changed when Emmy was picked up as a stray in Henderson, Nevada, in September. The City of Henderson Animal Care and Control shared the amazing story with its Facebook followers on September 26:

Who doesn’t love a happy ending? When 10 year old Emmy showed up at the shelter as a stray, about 2 weeks ago, it was discovered that she had a microchip. The microchip company was called so we could get information to contact the owner.

The owner on file was not traceable by phone. This happens, often, when owners don’t notify the microchip company of new contact information in the event they move or get a new phone number. With the phone contact information for the owner at a dead end, Emmy was put up for adoption after the 3 day stray hold.

A woman, who the shelter refers to as Esmeralda B., called the Nevada animal control agency on September 21 after receiving a message from a microchip company. Esmeralda had checked an old email address and found a message letting her know that her dog had been found in Nevada!

Esmeralda contacted the shelter to ask if they would hold Emmy until she could get there. Thanks to the tiny, implanted microchip, Emmy has been reunited with her rightful (and extremely grateful) owner.

The shelter wrote:

So from Florida, with love in her heart and tears of unbelievable joy rolling beneath her stylish blue framed glasses, Esmeralda B. was reunited with her little dog that had gone missing 4 years ago in Florida.

This is one of the reasons why we do what we do at the Henderson Animal Shelter.

  1. ON this Awful day of Pain in our NATION: this story was very much needed in my heart and soul…. Thank you to the shelter in Henderson NV. if only Emmy could talk……..

  2. Microchips are invaluable – if not for this chip, Emmy would never have been reunited with her owner – I bet she was stolen from her home then dumped in Nevada. Anyway, great story and a big reminder if you love your animals, microchip them.

  3. I truly believe those who DO NOT CHIP their pets, do it because they do not want to be linked to them….meaning, they know they are going to abuse, abandon, or surrender them eventually. There is absolutely NO REASON in this world to NOT chip your pets!! It an save their lives and it does not cost much!!
