In Garfield, New Jersey, 26 bulldog puppies were rescued on Saturday from a van parked outside of the WalMart store. The puppies, estimated to be eight-weeks-old, had arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport from Colombia and were reportedly headed to Florida pet stores.

According to the USA Today, the more than two dozen English and French bulldogs had been left unattended in a van where temperatures outdoors soared over 90 degrees. The puppies were seized by the Bergen County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)  after discovered crowded into two crates in the rear of the van.

Shelter staff have reported the puppies to be doing fine and all of the little ones are being medically monitored for heat exhaustion symptoms. When rescuers responded to the call at 3:00 p.m., all of the puppies were immediately removed and given water with one person involved in the response call describing the puppies drank “ferociously.”

Animal behaviorist Corey Cohen told North Jersey.com, the situation was extremely grave  – not just because of the heat but bulldogs in general have a hard time cooling down because they are brachycephalic.

The puppies are not available for adoption at this time and there have been no charges levied against the driver at this time pending further investigation.

  1. When are people ever going to learn it’s not rocket science when you buy a puppy you are supporting abusive breeders and puppy mills. Wake up idiots

  2. We are now importing puppy mill dogs from Columbia? Don’t we have enough here in the US to begin with? One has to wonder why they would ship them into New Jersey and then transport them all the way to Florida. I’m glad someone noticed these poor pups before it was too late, and there should be charges against the van driver! Had they not been seen, these poor pups would all have perished!

  3. WTF!!!!90 degrees and you think it’s ok to leave them in a hot van????Money hungry fucken puppy mill owner!!!!YOU should be locked in that van!!!!!!DO NOT BUY ANIMALS!!!!!!! ADOPT ADOPT ADOPT!!!!!!

  4. It should be illegal to run a puppy mill. When you buy a puppy from a pet store, you are perpetuating the mass production of puppies and you run the risk of buying a puppy with potential health and behavioral issues. Why are pet stores importing puppies anyway? I hope all these puppies found be sold to loving forever homes.

  5. Exactly HOW much investigation does Bergen County & the SPCA need in order to arrest the driver? Sounds like a lot of lip service instead of action. These puppies would have died and this person is not even arrested, another example of do nothing authorities when it comes to animal welfare. Makes me sick.

  6. I am interested in adopting one of the puppies. I can give the love and care they need. Where can I filled out the application.

  7. I hope they NOT go back too this cruelty people how left them in the wan !!! The shelter shold take care of them ???????????????? poor poor little puppiys ❤❤❤❤❤❤

  8. That Son of a Bitch needs to be charged and thrown in Prison with no way to have food or water and see how he likes it!!!! Stupid ASSHOLE!!!

  9. Further investigation?? Is it not illegal to leave dogs in a hot car in Florida?? That alone should be enough for an arrest! I’m so sick of these greedy, money hungry assholes making money at the exspense of the suffering, and in a lot of case the death, of innocent dogs! It’s deplorable to me that our county does not ban the legal existance of puppy mills! They are nothing more than legal torture chamber from hell for dogs!! Don’t we have enough homeless and suffering dogs out in society? Banning all puppy mills will be a step towards the over population problem of dogs! And banning all pet stores from selling dogs from breeders instead of getting them from rescues, truthfully I don’t even like that idea either because way too many of these pet stores mistreat the dogs they sell! Make it illegal to sell dogs in pets stores and Craig’s List! Make it illegal to sell dogs on the internet period! I’m sure nothing more will come of this and nobody will be investigated or arrested. I thank God that these precious puppies have be rescued, and they better NOT RETURN THEM!!!!!!!!
