Authorities were shocked on Thursday in Stratford, New York after finding 22 French mastiffs dead or barely surviving on a rural property located on County Route 104. The New York State Police had been called in to investigate reports of animal abandonment when the disturbing discovery was made.

According to AbcNews, nine of the dogs were dead and the 13 surviving animals “were in various stages of emaciation.” Police had no idea when the dogs had last eaten, and there was no food or water found on the property. Some of the dogs were found inside of the residence while others had been left in cages outdoors. The dogs have been moved to the Brennan Humane Society. The organization posted their “wish list” to help these dogs. An announcement on the rescue’s Facebook page asked for the following assistance:

“We currently have twelve of the seized mastiffs in our care. At this time we are most in need of bleach, laundry soap, paper towels, blankets, towels and canned food. Legally their future remains uncertain, but we will keep everyone posted if and when they become available for adoption. We are grateful for the huge amount of support that we are receiving.”

The breed, referred to as French mastiffs, also known as the Dogue de Bordeaux, are large dogs weighing anywhere from 100 to 130 pounds. A very powerful breed, it is imperative the dogs be raised so as their temperaments are steady and dependable. To read more about this handsome breed,  click here.

Authorities are searching for the alleged owner of the dogs, Bentley A. Valdez. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police at 518.853.3720.

  3. I so hope the pos who left these beautiful animals to starve and die is caught and banned for life from keeping any animal poor sweet babies hope they all make it and have a wonderful life with love

  4. I hope the SOB is caught and punished. How could anyone let these beautiful dogs starved to death??? Being a mastiff owner, this really breaks my heart to see how these dogs suffered. I hate to see any dog being neglected and abused. I just have a special place in my heart for mastiffs.

  5. Linda I love your “rat bastard prick”!! It surely fits! SO if they locate who did this just what will they do to them? OH! Wait I know…….a fine and probation! Got to make that money for the courts and then NOT punish the scum that perpetrated this HORROR!!

  6. There is a special place in Hell for Bentley Valdez! Abandoning these dogs like this is despicable! I hope he is found and arrested and there is some justice for these poor dogs.

  7. To the sick sorry POS who left these innocent dogs to die and walk away Karma will meet up with you when you least expect it
I wish you bad health poor finance and a life of suffering so you somehow feel a small part of what these dogs did asshole

  8. So sad I hope the low life who did this has Karma knocking on his door. How cruel, prayers for this pups for a quick recovery and a good home, What can we do to help with the needs of these pups. Sending prayers and love for their life’s

  9. $2,500 Bail or $3,500 Bond, let us match the punishment with the crime! Would putting him one of his own make-shift pens & leave him to the elements with no food and water be more fitting? Parallel match of punishment for the crime. What are they giving him this morning in the Fulton County Jail? And why did he suddenly have dog food in the back of his van ? Why did he go first with that dog food to Syracuse to see his attorney verse getting the dog food to Stratford? He can afford an attorney but not the care these animals were deserving.
NEVER ** NEVER ** should this “man” be allowed to even have a common house fly as a pet.

  10. I am beyond devastated to hear this. As an owner of two beautiful French mastiffs, this makes me sick. They are the most precious and loving dogs. This scum deserves more than jail. There is a special place in hell for animal abusers.

  11. I’m ex military 6 combat tours I still couldn’t do the job of a animal control officer id beat the owner to death . I love animals its humans I don’t trust and this is why. ive owned the bullmastiff breed for 30 years there very loving dogs this is why ive never purchased a dog without researching the breeder. id lock the owner in a cage and starve him to death..

  12. Is this the same Bentley Valdez that police lived in Staten Island in 2015? Police were called there for animal abuse. There were 3 complaints.

    • If it is you can see how well New York State follows up on these things, they just move and continue their abusive ways somewhere else! disgusting!
