17-year-old dog surrendered

An elderly dog, said to be an impressive 17 years of age, was recently surrendered to the Hoke County Animal Shelter in Raeford, North Carolina. The dog, who is described as “wonderful!” is justifiably scared and confused now that he is locked away in a kennel run – away from everything that he once knew and loved.

On June 16, the Facebook page, Assisting the Hoke County Animal Shelter, wrote:

SENIOR ALERT! 17 YEARS OLD! This boy was surrendered and he’s wonderful. He is scared, but SOOOOO SWEET! He needs a rescue angel to let him live the rest of his time here. He is in great shape! You would never guess he’s that old. PLEASE SHARE. He likes other dogs too!

This elderly dog (Don Juan!) deserves to be in a home, not at a small, packed dog pound. Please help Don Juan find a retirement home by taking a moment to share his adoption information.

  1. This always break my heart. I hope someone would open their home and give this elderly dog all the love and care he deserves. He doesn’t have that many years left.

  2. This is heartbreaking!!! How in the world can anyone do this to this poor old boy??? He looks really good for 17 and I pray that he finds that loving home he deserves to live out the rest of his days.

    • If someone has the heart and is capable to get him out of there and transport this baby to me in ft myers fla.
I be happy to give him his forever home!!

      My number is 239-292-6184
Someone please let the Hoke County Shelter know i would love to take this baby in

  3. I just don’t understand People!!! How could you Love and Care for him for so long and then just give him up??? Whoever did this needs to be charged with abandonment!!!!! I just don’t understand.

  4. i am getting sick of people who can’t be bothered in looking after there dogs because of there age. When you take on a dog its for life and not get rid of it because of its age. This story is very heartbreaking to read and i hope that somebody will adopt this defenseless senior dog ASAP.

  5. Another senior thrown away! At this age he needs to be in a loving home, as dogs age they start experiencing some of the same things human seniors do! Sundowning is a very real symptom as they get this old! They get very confused and scared, they need to be held and reassured! Please adopt, foster or sponsor!

  6. This makes me Sick. How could anyone Turn a Senior Dog into a Shelter??? Don’t these Idiots Know that a Dog is yours to keep for Life. I sure Hope Karma gets You, You sick Bastard.

  7. I sent an email with an offer of a donation towards fees to [email protected] The phone number to the shelter is missing last four numbers. Its possible the owner passed away and family member could not or would not step up. The dog is in fabulous condition.
