ADOPTED! 😉

In Polk County, Georgia, a 15-year-old senior was surrendered to the shelter by his owner. How does one explain to Butch, who has lived in one home all of his life, that his owner no longer cares if he lives or dies? Tragically, this senior seems to understand the betrayal; he lies in the corner of the his shelter cage and shakes, but refuses to budge. And there comes the real concern; who will want to adopt Butch?

Butch was surrendered to the Polk County, GA Animal Adoption and Recovery Shelter on October 16. He is listed as a Labrador retriever and boxer mix. When inquiring about this dog, please reference 36834619.

“This is Butch; he is 15 yrs old and was surrendered by his owner. He has done nothing but sit in his kennel since he’s gotten here and shake. Hopefully we will build up enough trust and can farther test this boy before it’s too late,” volunteer Shannon Hicks posted on Facebook.

On Saturday, Shannon was able to leash Butch and slowly began to walk out of the kennel. Within ten feet of the door, the poor guy became so scared and overwhelmed, he pulled his way back into the building.

“I just let him go back in, and he went into his kennel and laid back down in the corner. He didn’t growl or bite, but just got so scared that he didn’t want to walk or anything. We will keep trying but it’s tough in  this environment,” Shannon posted.

Share Butch’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Additional information for Butch can be found here. Make sure to reference 36834619. We are all he has. Please help him find a safe home.

  1. Please, someone, find it in your heart to take this elderly dog into your home for whatever time he may have left. Gentle but so afraid he is shaking. Someone, some place, rescue him. He will reward you more than you adopting him could possibly be imagined the joy he would feel.

    • Humans are brutal. Even if someone can foster him while a permanent home is found would benefit this guy. At this age he could really suffer in this environment. Surely someone can foster this poor baby and heap tins of LOVE on him! I’d love to pay those aholes a visit!! This dog probably gave them complete unconditional love and THIS is what he gets! Horrible!!

    • IF YOU LIVE IN THE AREA? PLEASE HAVE A HEART AND ADOPT HIM. THERE IS ALSO A LAB I WAS READING EARLIER THAT IS MALNOURISHED AND WAS TIED IN THE APARTMENT THAT ALSO NEED TO BE ADOPTED. IF I LIVE THERE, I WOULD BUT I LIVE IN OREGON AND I HAVE 6 DOGS OF WHICH ONE IS A LAB RETRIEVER.

    • I live in Michigan, if I can’t adopt him & you can, I will pay the adoption fee for you. I just want to see him have a forever loving home. I will contact shelter.

  2. Such a gentle looking soul!!! How hurt and grieving for his former human and home… This just sickens me, I live two thousand miles west and no way can I get him , hopefully he will be a lucky one and a kind and gentle person ( hopefully there are a few left there) will give him a home for his last months or years… his owner SHOULD BE ASHAMED !!

  3. I would take Butch in a short minute. If he can be transported here to me by volunteer services like the one i volunteer with, I would provide every loving moment i could to make this innocent a great home. I am old too. I didn’t get thrown away by my daughter. To look at Butch’s face brings a connection–an overwhelming connection that has to be taken care of. I am in Roseburg Oregon. Can you get him here for a great home? Lots of references. Contact me please. Muttmom Vicki.

    • oh Vicki that is so heart warming. he looks so sad. I have 4 dogs which I care for—one is 12 between shots and flea medications i can’t take anymore. I don’t understand why someone would get rid of him at that age. very sad.

  4. How can anyone be so heartless. How could you get rid of your pet you had for so many years. Do they even care or understand the emotional pain they are inflicking on them! If it was a money issue for vet expenses then the owner should talk with the veterinarian and see what they could do. Maybe they could give them information for free care if they qualify. No instead the owner is a pos and took the lazy way out and dumped his pet. I hope someone gets him out of there

  5. Wonderful news! There are still good people in this world. I hope Butch will live out his remaining years in his new home with much love and comfort. Bless the person who adopted Butch.

  6. Someone please help this sweet pup….he deserves love until the end of his day….not terror and fright. I hope who ever surrendered him IS NOT ALLOWED any other pet. There needs to be a National Registry. If you abuse, torture, kill or SURRENDER/ABANDON your pet…..you are done, you never get to have another one! Also you would be banned from even LIVING in the same home as a pet.
