How does anyone explain to a 14-year-old dog his owners don’t care anymore? Rocky spends all day from his display room howling trying desperately to either call for the family who surrendered him or attract attention from someone willing to ease his aching broken heart. Volunteer and animal advocate, Ahsley Lopez visited Rocky on Wednesday and her heart broke:

“He even tried biting at the glass to get out! He eventually just stood there looking at me without moving an inch. His sad eyes broke my heart. I took him out to play after taking these pictures and videos and I hate to know that all he wants is his owners that didn’t provide him with the best care. He comes to kiss me and he just cries the whole time.”

While in the park, Rocky watched every car and every person. When he didn’t recognize anyone, he cried.  And again -how does anyone explain to a 14-year-old dog his owners don’t care anymore?

“Rocky #A1897204  German shepherd mix
The cruelest blow.. an owner surrender at age 14.. Dear Lord, why??
Despondent, thin, ears gnarly and thick from years of untreated infections, rough calloused elbows from laying on hard concrete, now this?!?! He tries to make himself (unsuccessfully) a fluffy bed out of thin newspaper.
He has a doggie smell like he’s never had a bath..years of neglect that don’t ‘wash away’.
For whatever remaining years of his life, this dog needs HELP!”

Please share Rocky’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. A Facebook page for this dog can be followed here.

  1. Sad situation – wish I could foster, I read this stories & my heart breaks, I would bath him, brush him & bring him into my home if I could. Please everybody share this story & maybe Pilots for Paws can fly him away. Thank you shelter for taking him in

  2. Sharing in the hopes someone from New York State can share and make a difference for a dog in Florida. I’m so sorry Rocky that someone has abandoned you like this!.

  3. This is beyond sad!!! Sitting with me now is Lilly Bean a 16 year full size Dachshund who just recently had a stroke that affected her hind legs. Did we dump her to a shelter to be killed . Hell No!!! We took her to our vet had x-rays, have her on medication and I am massaging her legs … I carry her and have a container with handles where she can sit right next to us … This IS FAMILY!!! It is a Crying Ass Shame the cold, callus, non-feeling way our GREAT LAND OF THE FEE HAS BECOME IN THE LAST COUPLE of GENERATIONS NOT only toward animal’s , our elders( many our very own parents) cast aside to languish and die alone . WE can now longer AS AMERICAN”S look down our noses at THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES>>> WE HAVE BECOME ONE!!!! AND SHAME ON US!!!!

  4. Heartbreaking….how in the world could anyone do this to him??? My heart aches for this poor old boy. Can’t someone help him??

  5. Some HUMANS don’t deserve dogs. Hope the owners kids dump them off like they did this dog. He is so lonely. Someone please take this dog home and give him a decent life, what time he has left. He doesn’t deserve to be dismissed like this.

  6. Sharing from Connecticut, but hoping a kind person, finds this and visits Rocky, and brings him home.
    Please update.

  7. The “owners” need to be stuck in that cage and see how they like it. This is TERRIBLE!!!! Poor Baby!!!! Please Help!!

  8. There should be a national registry. ANYONE who abuses, murders or surrenders and animal should have their name on the registry and never be allowed to adopt or purchase another pet. They should also be BANNED from living in the same home as a pet.

  9. I hate people. Even after years of obvious neglect he still wants to be with his (former) people. Now that he’s a senior he gets dumped, probably to die, in a shelter. Scared alone and lost, no living social animal should have to go through this.

  10. He’s got such a sweet face, how can anyone look at that face daily and not want to hug him and love him. Poor Rocky, I wish i could take him. I will pray for your rescue sweetheart.

  11. If every human that has any heart at all can please take an animal thats in desperate need they will give you more love and protection than a fellow human being. They didn’t ask to be used as ? They are the most giving loving joyful addition to anyone’s family. Just wants to be loved! Don’t we all? I’ve had the honor of my babies being adopted from shelters and I 2ould never buy a dog from anyplace other than shelters. Im54 had 2 wonderful min pin mix babies they were one and two yrs old and just lost second one at age 21 &before that was 19yrs miss them so much. I love it dogs but can’t have where I live only small. I had 3 cats Missy died 4 yrs ago age 20 had cancer in jaw and had to put bootsie down last month 17 yrs old pancreatic cancer and still have Sebastian he’s big black tuxedo tomboy but thinks he’s a min pin because he ate played slept u name it he did with my two min pin s he acts like dog ????and love him so much. He’s 10-11 yrs old and full of fun. Needs min pin or mix that will play and sleep with him! I have had many babies from shelters and can’t find any better babies than those that u get from shelters they appreciate your time and friendship and love and no doubt they would die 4 me. There’s many stories where animals save our lives we owe to them and ourselves to get any one from shelters and they will bring u more love and happiness than u can ever get from a pet shop . They are always well behaved and potty trained inside and out. God blessed us with the we wonderful companions that we live longer and are healthier happier and women love critters…a house isn’t a home without God’s wonderful companions that we haven’t been very accommodating for our animals it’s time we all give love and get millions back, they need us but we need them more ! God bless ????please share with all your family , friends and acquaintances!

  12. It seems that in this world of throw away appliances, cars, electronics, senior pets can now be added to the list! They are being dumped in record numbers! The saddest part of this, the fact that most of these seniors show signs of long term neglect, some cases serious abuse! Yet these dogs cry for the people who are responsible! Goes to show how loyal and how forgiving animals are! This little old man shows long term neglect, I see cataracts in his eyes, I also see desperation, confusion, and hope for the people who put him there come back for him!

    • Rocky, should expect his owners, former or otherwise to return to him, hug him and bring him home to a loving environment. Consider the gentle morals of the canine species: their protectiveness towards humans and their own babies. Rocky is a moral, respectable, living, loving entity, who deserves to receive the same from humans, who also are endowed with the most respectable, decent qualities of life.
