The Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for abandoning two unconscious dogs in an alley at Leavenworth, Kansas. According to the shelter, the two emaciated dogs were found on Monday near the 800 block of Pottawatomie Street. Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society 5

Both dogs have slowly been making progress, although their prognosis is still unknown. The staff at the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society have named the two Boxers -Tori and Hank. Brought in as emergency cases, both dogs were placed on intravenous fluids, administered antibiotics and fed small amounts every two hours to slowly accustom their starving bodies to food again. After five days of hospitalization, Tori’s condition has improved, however she is extremely anemic and still weak. Hank is reported to be nearly strong enough to be transferred to a foster home.

No one knows what happened to Tori and Hank. In an effort to help however, the LAWS is coordinating efforts to help pet owners who are not able to feed their dogs. On the organization’s Facebook page, the following assistance will be made available:Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society 4

“These two dogs were neglected, abused, not fed, confined and dumped in an alley. We don’t know who the owner(s) are – so we can’t speculate as to their financial status. There are already places in town that low income folks can get pet food. LAWS wants to reach out to the truly needy in the community so that pets don’t go hungry. I will add that these 2 dogs are getting fed puppy food every two hours, so any donations would be very much appreciated.”

  1. This has reached critical mass! This is happening too often dogs being starved by whom ever! If you can’t afford to feed your dog you can go to the food bank or there are places that give out just dog food! These 2 got lucky they were saved in time! There are too many who aren’t saved!

  2. I notice the picture on top of this article looks like a well fed female mom, however, the second dog has definitely been starved for quite sometime. Where are the puppies?

    • Uhm, the dog in the picture is skeletal, If you look closely you can see her whole entire shoulder/ blade. And the ribs are also clearly visible. The neck clearly shows dehydration. She does have teats so must have had puppies at one time. The angle of the photo is misleading, the dog is emaciated.

  3. Looking at the female’s belly in the top photo, she appears to have had puppies at some time. These were probably used for breeding and left to starve and then dumped when the monster(s) who had them couldn’t make money from selling the puppies. I hope they find who did this. Praying for the full recovery of these two beautiful dogs and also for loving forever home(s) for both of them.

  4. Whish Toni and Hank a Good recover and a careful foreverhome ???????? and theres f.s.owner I whish a life in hell ????????????????????Big Hugs from Sweden ❤❤❤❤❤

  5. Someone KNOWS who these dogs belonged to and hopefully they have a conscience. These dogs deserved much better than to be in the clutches of such a maggot. I hope they recover and get the safe loving home they never had. Whoever dumped them needs a severe dose of street justice.

  6. Well I MOST certainly have Respect for the organization that took these two pitiful dogs, and didn’t just euthanize them!! Also for the very fact the needy (regardless of the cause) can go and get supplemental food for their animals… This is indeed a STEP in the right direction on assisting animal’s in dire need!!! instead of closing their eyes to the issue… I wish the authorities or an organization would PUTUP a sizeable reward for their “drugging” friends to turn these BASTARDS IN FOR THE CASH!!!
