Woman claims her dog was killed by another dog

A woman in Normal, Illinois, claims that her dog died after being attacked by another dog during her trek to a pet store where she was going to have Santa photos taken. According to WILX News, the heartbreaking situation happened on Saturday inside of a Petco store.

Blair Bourret, owner of the eight-year-old Maltipoo, “Chloe,” who died, claims that an unrestrained yellow Labrador retriever attacked her dog. Bourret described what took place, “The dog came over and got on top of Chloe. It growled and lunged on her. Then all of sudden we had to untangle her.”

Though Chloe was rushed to a veterinarian, she died from a snapped neck. The authorities are investigating the situation because witnesses claim that the Labrador retriever never actually came in contact with the small dog – there is speculation that Chloe’s neck could have snapped after her leash was jerked away from the larger dog. A full necropsy of Chloe’s body will be performed.

Petco has stated that the larger dog should have been leashed – unrestrained dogs inside of the store is a violation of store policy; the owner of the larger dog could face repercussions for having the dog off-leash. Petco has offered to pay for the deceased dog’s “final expenses.”

  1. How horrible, what was to be a fun day with Santa, turned into tragedy! Shame on the owner of the Lab for not having their dog leashed, If indeed Chloe’s neck was snapped by the leash being pulled, you can see the advantage of a harness on these little ones. My heart goes out to all concerned.

  2. OMG!!! if that poor little dog was killed (accidently ) by her owner trying to save her from the large unleashed leash she will be totally devastated !!! But I am sure the lady was terrified of her little dog being attacked… What a horrible situation!!! This should not have happened!!!

  3. This just breaks my heart!!! All because of a stupid owner!! I can’t even blame the other dog. Always keep your dog under control. You never know how they are going to act around other animals or people. I don’t care how well behaved you think they are. They can be the perfect dog until the one time they are not and then it’s too late. I also hate when I have a dog on leash and so does the other person but they still let their dog come up to mine like when I’m at the vets office. Drives me insane!! Please people use some common sense so your dog doesn’t have to pay the price for your stupidity.

  4. This girl, come on! There are several witnesses that said the dog never even came near hers. It’s pretty much confirmed that Blaire lies about everything and over exaggerates. It’s sad that she’s so mad at herself for killing her dog that she can’t admin she pulled too hard on the harness. YES I said harness because she claims that dogs can’t break a neck while wearing one. WRONG. You CAN yank so hard that you whip the dogs neck too fast…

    • The dog is 8 years old. Pretty sure it wasn’t her first outing with the dog. Seems as though you have more of a problem with Blair that the situation. Rediculous

  5. What a terrible tragedy!!!! Poor Chloe and her mom who had to watch in horror without being able to save her. Please don’t turn it around on Chloe’s human by saying her neck may have been snapped due to pulling on the leash. The lab should have been on a leash if he was none of this would have happened. Prayers to Chloe’s family….

  6. Chloe was on a harness! This is the owner of the labs fault. They did not fulfill their responsibility as the owner of that lab. RIP sweet chloe!

  7. PLEASE DONT BLAME THE PRECIOUS 4LEGGEDS. IT IS SO EASY TO PULL THE LEASH, ESPECIALLY WITH THE OLD TIME COLLARS. BUT, TOO, IT IS UP TO EACH GUARDIAN TO HAVE CONTROL OVER THEIR PRECIOUS 4LEGGED AT ALL TIMED,

PETCO, PAYING THE PRECIOUS DECEASED CHOLE’S. “FINAL EXPENSES” THEY TOO SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.

I READ THE RESPONSE ABOVE…I put all blame on Petco. More protection for the PRECIOUS 4LEGGEDS. .UNLEASHED DOGS AN SHOULD BE ACTUALLY REFUSED ENTRANCE IN THE STORE.

    RIP CHLOE….

  8. This is extremely heartbreaking and devastating, and could have been totally prevented. Such a shame that some dog owners do not use common sense and precautions in keeping their dog safe. Chloe, I’m so sorry your life was sacrificed for people’s stupidity. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Chloe. ????

  9. Forensic Autopsy of Chloe Rose Bourret done at the University of Illinois stated that the Dogs Canine fractured Chloe’s Occipital Bone and a Bone Fragment lacerated the brain stem which killed Chloe immediately. #justiceforchloe

      • Putting aside medical terminology ” there are four large pointed teeth located upper and bottom to the outside of all dogs, cats, and similar species of animals” one of those teeth.more than likely a bottom tooth, entered the occipital lobe, which is the back lower portion of the skull … This tooth entered that portion of the skull and a portion of the tooth fractured and stuck into the brain matter thus killing this poor pup instantly..NO the owner did not ,I repeat , did not cause the death of her own pet!!!

    • That report should most certainly clarify EXACTLY what happened to Poor Little Chloe and ALSO who is Legally Responsible for Her death!!! An Autopsy done by a noted University will Hold up in ANY court of law!!!
