In Weymouth, Massachusetts, a woman is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities accused her of stomping a kitten to death outside of her home during a drunken rage. According to the Patriot Ledger, Eleanor M. Campbell, 35, appeared in court on Monday for her arraignment and has been released on her own recognizance.
The tragic situation occurred Friday evening when authorities were called concerning a domestic fight. When police arrived, Campbell was standing in the driveway, insisting she had only consumed one and a half beers and had not been fighting with any of her neighbors as reported. Ten minutes after the police left, instructing an uncooperative Campbell to go back into her apartment, officers were called again. This time, Campbell was back outside, dressed only in a shirt and socks, throwing items at a neighbor’s car.
Officers also discovered a tiny dead kitten – all bloodied with what appeared to have a broken neck – lying in front of a parked car in the driveway where Campbell had been standing and yelling at neighbors. The kitten’s tiny body appeared to have been smashed or stomped upon at some point. According to the investigating officer, it appeared the woman had killed the kitten in a “fit of rage” induced by alcohol. In addition, her socks were soaked in blood as well as splattered over with blood on her legs.
The defenseless kitten was estimated to have been no more than a few months old and weighed less than three pounds. Her body has been sent to the lab for a necropsy to determine the cause of death. If found guilty of animal cruelty, Campbell faces up to seven years in state prison and a maximum fine of $5,000.
Rest in peace little kitten. We are sorry a human destroyed your life.
