There is tragic news to share about an emaciated dog who was thrown from a car in Paterson, New Jersey. According to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, the horribly neglected dog has died. The rescue agency shared the tragic news with Facebook followers on Friday.

The post to followers of the rescue agency’s page reads:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we bring you this devastating news. Our sweet Grant passed away early this morning from multiple complications of severe starvation and neglect. This is despite the best efforts of the RBARI and Oradell teams to save his life.

According to the organization, though Grant fought for his life to “the very end,” the brutal abuse and likely chronic neglect simply proved to be too much for him to survive.

Grant was found last Saturday – a witness observed someone toss the badly neglected dog from their car like unwanted garbage. The car sped away and Grant was left behind…

The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge has indicated that this case is actively being investigated and that Grant’s abuser will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The rescue agency offered thanks to those who helped Grant before he died:

Our most heartfelt thanks go out to officer John DeCando of Paterson Animal Control for reaching out to us immediately when he was alerted to Grant being thrown from the car, the bystander who chose not to turn her head on a crime against an innocent dog..the staff of Oradell Animal Hospital for their love and care.

Rest in peace little one – you deserved better.
