In Tampa, Florida, a Labrador retriever and pit bull mix is recovering after having been shot 26 times with a BB gun on Wednesday, reports AbcNews.
The eight-year-old dog named Lola was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital where 15 of the silver pellets were removed; one of the shots hit her in the head believed to have been from close range. The dog will need further treatment to remove the rest.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, investigators are currently reviewing social media posts for clues to identify the dog’s attacker. Information about the despicable deed has allegedly been posted, and authorities are following the leads. The culprit faces animal cruelty charges.
“She is an innocent animal. She’s been traumatized and I feel every pellet is a reminder,” stated Lola’s owner, Noelle Perez. ”
As to being a miracle pooch, Lola is quite amazing. The dog already survived cancer and continues to recover. Lola needs X-rays to locate the remaining BBs; a fund to help the family with her veterinary expenses can be found here.
