A man at a Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, dog day care facility was caught on surveillance video repeatedly hitting a dog. The man, identified as 21-year-old Reed Justin Davis, was at the Canine Club boarding/daycare facility at the time that the incident took place.

Animal control reviewed the surveillance video and charged Davis with animal cruelty in December 2015, reported Tuesday’s WTAE News. The dog which is struck by the man is a St. Bernard who was reported to be a “rescue dog” staying at the facility in order to be socialized.

The website for the Canine Club has posted a statement which addresses the situation; the company stated:

We are writing in response to the story about the incident with the St Bernard.

We point out that the dog was not injured in any way.

First of all, despite people’s quick conclusions about the video, when the dog was jumping up, he was growling and attempting to bite theface of our staff member. The dog was not “trying to play”. The dogcontinued to growl and bite even when he was on the ground. The otherstaff members, including those in the video, became afraid of the dog and didn’t try to help.

By way of background, this dog was the 6th rescue St Bernard brought
to our facility by the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation, Inc. and all
prior dogs had been fine and without incident.

This dog came in after Jennifer Bowden of Bethlehem PA, who
represented the Rescue and had arranged prior stays, implored us to
take him.

Unfortunately, this dog immediately started biting at staff members
consistently and on a daily basis. The bites were almost always aimed
for the face.

According to the business, the dog was later euthanized for aggressive behavior – allegedly attacking three other people after leaving the daycare facility. The business wrote:

As a result of this situation last year we stopped taking rescue dogs
whose history could not be documented and/or who did not come from a
family environment.

Despite, this incident volunteers from the rescue have brought new
dogs to us since and again without incident.

All of our staff has now gone through training with an outside
professional in how to deal with and handle aggressive and dangerous
dogs like this one.

We invited and continue to invite, the local humane officer to come
and monitor our facility. To date he has declined.

  1. The second person in the video should be charged, too. They just f***** STOOD there. They didn’t try to stop this monster or run for help. They just stood there. If the dog really HAD been aggressive, then something should have been done after the first time he tried to bite. You’d think people working at a doggie daycare would have better training. My youngest daughter worked at one when she was in Arizona, and she took training for dealing with the dogs (and had training through a rescue, too). It says the dog was later euthanized for being aggressive – I wonder if part of that was because of this situation. A dog that is scared or reactive can be worked with. Hitting the dog just reinforces their negative behavior. Poor dog. I bet with the right people working with him, he could have been saved.

  2. Bull shit the dog was very relaxed with the other person in he video.. then the other ass wipe started being mean to the dog!!!! you people need to get your shit together…

  3. Maybe a trainer would have benefited this dog before they killed him. RIP mystery dog. I wonder what happened to you to give you such fear you had to bite?

  4. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU FOR FAILING THIS POOR TRAUMATIZED PET. OBVIOUSLY HITTING AND BEATING HIM WAS NOT THE ANSWER. AND KILLING THE PET WAS NOT EITHER. WHEN A DOG HAS BEEN BEATEN AND THEN IS TAKEN INTO A FACILITY THAT IS SUPPOSE TO RE-SOCIALIZE THE DOG AND THEY DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THEIR DOING, OR HOW TO HANDLE THE DOG. THEN THE DOG IS BLAMED… NO BLAME THE INHUMANE HUMANS THAT UN-SOICALIZED AND HARMED THE DOG TO BEGIN WITH. AND THEN TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, THE DOG IS SENT TO A BUNCH OF IDIOTS THAT HAVE NO PATIENCE AND TRAINING AND THEY BEAT THE DOG. GET RID OF THIS FAILED FACILITY AND FIND BETTER TRAINED HUMANE HUMANS THAT HAVE PATIENCE AND LOVE TO HELP AND WORK WITH TRAUMATIZED ANIMALS.

  5. Well bottom line is that even if a dog is aggressive and they claim they knew that you don’t beat it in the head. That idiot had no business being near that dog. They have a training facility in that place not affiliated with them but ask for help or guidance.

  6. They were out right lying when they tried to excuse his violence against that poor dog. He was alone w/ the dog when he first threatened the dog with the stick. Then the dog ran to the lady for safety & she was petting it. Then he just went after the dog and started chasing & beating it. This lady should lose her job for trying to cover up his abuses.

  7. No way in hell would I leave my dogs with these people. And the dog had to be euthanized? First of all, why was this idiot trying to drag this poor dog up the side instead of using the ramp? Pulling by the leash and making this baby scale the side of the walkway wasn’t very intelligent, either. This poor dog has an unknown past, probably of abuse and then this idiot further traumatizes him. I hope someone knows who this clown is and educates him. Too bad he can’t be held down and smacked.

  8. Why are they hiding their faces? Let the whole community see them, so they can get their ass kicked every time they leave their house.

  9. This is heartbreaking. I can’t stop crying. To make excused and enable this piece of crap for what he did is SICK. Shut this place down and let this go viral so NO INE leaves their Furbabies there. ????????????????

  10. No wonder the dog acts like that …. probably hit often … HEY HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ABOUT A MUZZLE ?? I HAVE ARESCUE GIRL TO BEHAVED LIKE THIS. I PURCHASED A SOFT NYLON MUZZLE ….. told her NO BITE when I put it on her. Later: NEVER has bitten me again. I’ve now had her for six years. Just kill when it happens to be caused by a human to begin with. MAYBE she didn’t like men either….killed this poor animal, why because it was easier ?

  11. The dog was feral and not anybody’s pet. It was captured in the wild of West Virginia and should never have been anywhere near other people’s pets. This dog was euthanized after it bit several people following this incident including the rescue staff who brought it to the day care.

    • So it is still ok to abuse an animal even if feral? What that’s some crock. People who do not know how to deal with an aggressive animal should not be running a daycare. Pure and simple! I don’t believe you anyway.

  12. SO THIS SCUMBAG HELD THE DOG BY THE NECK, HAD A STICK, PULLED AND THEN BEAT THE DOGS HEAD IN WITH HIS FIST! OH OK ITS THE DOGS FAULT!!! LIARS AND THEY ARE A DISGRACE, NO TRAINED STAFF AT ALL..THE BITCH WHO PET THE DOG LOOK OH SO SCARED! JUST AS GULITY AS THE FECES WITH HIS FISTS! THATS HOW THEY HANDLE “SO CALLED AGGRESSION” BEATING THE DOGS HEAD IN WITH YOUR FIST” NOT BRINGING THE DOG IN AND BEING HUMANE…THIS IS A DISGRACEFUL PLACE AND A DOGS DEAD BECAUSE OF INHUMANE CREEPS, PUNKS WITH NO TRAINING, AND ABUSERS…GOD KNOWS HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE GONE THROUGH ABUSE FOR “SO CALLED AGGRESSION” ..VIDEO SHOWS LIES AND A DOG BEING BEATEN BOTTOM LINE …THATS NOT TRAINED PEOPLE, CANINE CLUB SHAME ON YOU!
