Years and years ago, Canela was adopted from the high kill and overcrowded Baldwin Park Shelter shelter. On July 17, she was returned – now nearly 15-years-old, heartbroken and very much aware that her family has both deserted and betrayed her. Most likely, her family thought she was just too old. Canela

A Facebook page can be found here as advocates share Canela’s heartbreaking plight with approved rescue organizations and pledge funds to help with her expenses. Click here for this girl’s adoption listing. Animal ID: A4040781. Please note although the dog’s current adoption listing states she has not been spayed, records have not always been updated. It is suggested any interested organization or family interested in meeting, fostering or adopting Canela call the shelter and speak with an agent.

Another Facebook page is available. Tragically animal shelters are filled with healthy and active senior dogs. These dogs traditionally make great companions. Most were once loved, and sadly they are often the first to be euthanized at overcrowded  shelters if not adopted quickly. As to their finer points, older dogs are frequently trained, calmer and less energetic than their puppy counterparts. Adult dogs already have established temperaments which will give a would-be adopter an idea how he/she might fit into the dynamics of a new family.

And remember, older dogs make instant companions; they already know how to walk on a leash – look forward to that walk, a game of fetch or a loving snuggle together on the couch. Please share Canela’s plight and help her find a loving second chance.

Baldwin Park Shelter is open for adoptions seven days a week. They are located at 4275 Elton Street, Baldwin Park, California 91706. Phone: 626 430 2378.

  1. If this article doesn’t break your heart, I don’t know what will. Canela is a beautiful 15 yr pittie that has been dumped by her family at a very high kill and overfilled shelter. Because of her age and breed, she may not be considered as “adoptable” as some of the other dogs. That could lead to her being destroyed. But, with our help, Canela could be rescued and find a wonderful furever home to live in the rest of her life, however long it maybe. Please share to help her find a foster home, pledges and a rescue group. She still has a lot of love to give but her heart is broken by the betrayal of her pos family.

  4. Too cheap and morally bankrupt to put this old soul down themselves, when the time came. A pox upon the former owners who so wholly forsake their human responsibility.

  5. To the P.O.S.SCUMBAG That deserted this senior MAY YOU ROT IN HELL ASSHOLE KARMA WILL GET YOU AND YOUR FAMILY I HOPE YOU SUFFER FOR THE REST OF YOUR PITIFUL LIFES

  6. This just disgusts me!! I pray this sweet baby is adopted or fostered before the shelter kills her! The family should never be allowed to have another animal again!! Adopt for life or don’t adopt!! These are animals with hearts and souls!! Not shoes!! ??????

  7. Do you know what I would’ve given to have my dog to the beautiful age of 15. He died 3 1/2 months ago at the age of 12…too soon for my heart! But even 15 would not have been long enough and this family discards this poor soul like yesterday’s garbage. So very heartbreaking for this sweetheart. She didn’t deserve that.
