In Whitesville, New York, a six-year-old starving dog on the brink of death, heard neighbors talking and smashed a window to jump out of an old trailer in order to save his life and the life of his offspring, reports the Evening Tribune.eugenio-charles-2

On September 11, neighbors came running when they saw the blue-nose pit bull named Ace jump from the window. The men climbed into the trailer to find the dog’s four-year-old son, named Mooch lying lifeless. The dog, so close to death couldn’t even pick up his head; what the rescuers saw was heartbreaking. No food had been given to the dogs although two cans of dog food were present. A part of  one dog’s tooth was found on the can as he must have tried to get to the food. The bathtub was half-filled with water; someone had been at the trailer to sweep up, but the dogs were just left to starve.

SPCA investigators have charged Eugenio N. Charles III, 28, for felony aggravated cruelty to animals, two counts of misdemeanor overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide proper sustenance. According to authorities, Charles left the dogs in the trailer located on the side of his residence “to die” in their own urine and feces.

The Good Samaritans called authorities as soon as they administered some help to the dogs. SPCA President Lynda Pruski and SPCA Investigator Jessica Middaugh arrived at the residence located at 732 Main Street stating Mooch had been the most severely emaciated living dog she had ever seen.

The dogs were both rushed to the Wellsville Veterinarian  where Dr. Thomas Lopez evaluated Mooch as having a body score of 0.5 on a scale to 10 for size and weight; he weighed 26.7 pounds and should have weighed at least 60.

“His eyes, he was looking around like, ‘Somebody help me.’ It was so awful; It was, like, the worst thing we’ve ever seen. When he was trying to (stand up), his shoulders would just pop right out of the sockets, and he’d fall right over. There was nothing holding him together,” described Lynda.eugenio-charles-3

Miraculously, both dogs are recovering and are said to be very friendly and extremely affectionate. They are currently in the care of the SPCA Serving Allegany County and must be kept at the shelter until a judge decides their fate. Readers can follow their recovery on the organization’s Facebook page.

As for their owner, Charles III, he told authorities he wanted to take the dogs to the SPCA, but had been in jail recently and although he had been in Pennsylvania recently looking for work, he had neglected his dogs. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Donations can be made in person or mailed to P.O. Box 381, Wellsville, NY 14895. Foster and adoption applications can be found at www.spcaallegany.org. Call (585) 593-2200 for more information.

  3. I couldn’t even tell the dog’s breed. If I say anything else, it will be unprintable except that I am so very happy that the dog was able to get out of that Hell and get the help he needed.

    • How did he muster the strength? Devine intervention at work for this pair. Looking at their fragile bodies hurts my heart. Whatever reason their torturer was in jail for, I hope he goes back and they forget to feed him. Karma, be swift.

  4. The individual that committed this horrific CRIME against these two little animals that did absolutely NOTHING to deserve this sort of treatment NEEDS to be DEALT with Swiftly::: The JUDICAL SYSTEM better damn well not just give this complete RIF_RAF an lecture and let him go on his merry WAY>>> HE has Killer INSTINCT and will MOVE ON to ABUSE CHILDREN< WOMEN< ELDERLY if allowed to WALK on something as DEMONIC and EVIL as what he did to these DOGS!!!! WAKE UP OUT THERE and STEP UP TO THE PLATE OFFICERS OF THE LAW!!!!

  5. If they dont kill that pos lunk ass white trash pie e of filth tbere will be vigilante animal lovers hunting him down! That is the buzz judge! Make tbe devil spawn an example of, by sending his ugly sociopathic scum in prison for life! There is a high recidivism rate for these pure evil trash! Die you coward!

  6. These crimes against animals are not dealt with in anyway fair, we are here to be there voices and take care of them, that guy needs to be severely dealt with, a guy in England hit his dog in the head that he got severe brain damage, he got 10 years from ever owing an animal, as a a result 2 years later he shock his own baby to death! If only they really saw what he did to his dog the poor child would be alive too? I just hope he’s been shock and kicked to death in prison you sick bastard.

  7. I agree with everything that has been said in previous comments!!!! I get so enraged when I see or read what happens to these precious animals and children!! If I could I would line all the abusers of children, animals, elderly up an use a gun an shoot one joint at a time and leave them there to suffer!!!

  8. The judge decides their fate? Surely the judge won’t order them put down or returned to the owner????
I can’t think of anything appropriate to do to the POS who did this!!!

  9. Wait what? A judge will decide the fate of these two abused creatures. Their fate seems to be decided to me. They should be cared for and found good, loving forever homes. I would think that they have suffered enough. If there is any other fate that a judge would decide, the judge should think again. The owner should go to prison and the two dogs should have a chance at a good life.
