It has been a long time since Thelma spent a night in a real home – for too long, years in fact, she has called a kennel run at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh (Long Island) New York. In fact, Thelma holds the unfortunate title of the shelter’s longest resident.

On September 5, a post was made to Thelma’s Facebook page (yes, she has her own because she needs as much attention as she can get to find an adopter!), which reveals the length of time that Thelma has been homeless:

My 3rd Labor Day weekend at the shelter has come and gone…and I still have no family to call my own yet. Can you please share me everywhere? I am the #1 longest resident at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, LI, NY.

It has been years – long, lonely years without her own person, lonely years without a real home. According to Thelma’s website, she weighs 55 pounds and is recommended to join a family with older (or no) children – ages 17 and up. She is not  a fan of cats, so a no feline household is required. The shelter requires a meet and greet for families who already have a dog at their home.
