A senior German shepherd dubbed “Rufus,” is currently being held at a busy animal control agency in California. The 12-year-old dog, identification number A4969957, is in a kennel run at the Los Angeles County Animal Control facility in Downey.

Rufus arrived to the facility on July 7 and he is available for adoption on July 11. Judging by Rufus’ appearance, it has been quite some time since he was treated to a good brushing. Rufus’ lack of grooming is the least of his worries…he is undoubtedly shaken and confused by his current situation.

Rufus’ age works against his odds of being adopted – most people who visit an animal control agency are seeking puppies, or young dogs as opposed to dogs who have already given much of their life to someone else.

Rufus may be a senior, but he is still alive and deserving of love – in order to help this deserving boy find someone to take him in, he requires the help of strangers who are willing to take a moment to network his adoption information.

  1. Trying to adopt him but we have to be there in person to reserve him. We are calling pet transport services to try and get this sweet boy to us

    • I hired a pet transport company, Happy Tails, to adopt Rufus out of the pound. The pound actually called me and told me they were going to put him down. It was horrifying. I had Happy Tails fly Rufus to Florida. We picked him up yesterday from the Orlando airport. He is so very, very sweet. We are taking him to the vet this morning because he is very weak on his back legs. I wish I could show you the pictures of how sweet he is. Super gentle, quiet and appreciative. No one could believe we rescued a dog from California. I am blessed to be given the opportunity.
