In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, best friends River and Daisy lend each other emotional and physical comfort after having had the worst experiences of their lives just a few months ago. Now the bonded pair are ready for their new home.daisy-and-river-2

Long-haired Collie beauty, four-year-old Daisy cares for her smaller canine companion, River, a six-year-old blind Jack Russell terrier. The two were removed from a cruelty situation, but the friendly pair have put their sad experiences behind them and are ready to find their “furever” home, according to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Both dogs were a mess when they arrived at the shelter.  Daisy had a deep, antibiotic-resistant wound on her back, and River was practically blind. Daisy, however watches over River, and the two frequently walk side by side with Daisy making sure the path for her little friend is always clear and safe. Other times Daisy leads River just as a seeing eye dog would. And of course, this is not just a one-way friendship. During the time, Daisy’s painful wound on her back was healing, River would comfort her by lying close.

When separated for a short time while Daisy needed surgery, neither dog would eat, but when they were reunited the bonded pair rejoiced.

“They are looking to find the perfect home together where they can lean on each other and enjoy the love of a new family,” posted the Pennsylvania SPCA on their Facebook page.

Donations for River and Daisy can be made here. The shelter is located at 350 E Erie Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19134.Phone: (215) 426-6300 (Photos via  Pa. SPCA Facebook
