A Russian woman has been arrested after allegedly posting horrific online videos showing the torture of cats and dogs she “rescued” from animal shelters and from owners who could no longer keep their pets. According to the Daily Mail, Alina Orlova, 21, was arrested on Thursday as she prepared to board a flight to St. Petersburg, Russia. Orlova and her friend, Alena Savchenko, 19, who goes by the name of Kristina Hemp on social media, wear horror costumes and bloody makeup as they allegedly torture the innocent victims – kittens, puppies, dogs and cats.
One of the photos shows a petrified white cat as a knife is held up to its face. A different photo shows a dog nailed to a wall as if crucified and another dog is seen hanging by its collar and then shot with an air gun. Other disturbing images include dead animals with their eyes missing; a dead cat is shown lying on its back as the women cut open its stomach to pull out its internal organs.
Police became involved after animal lovers reacted with outrage to the graphic images of the torture of cats and dogs that were posted on social media. Local residents started a petition calling on the authorities to do something about the torturers. Both of the young women are students and live in the city of Khabarovsk in southeastern Russiaís Khabarovsk Krai region.
According to the Siberian Times, Orlova denies all of the allegations and places the blame on her “friend” Alyona, alleging the images were “photoshopped” to frame her. She said she has not spoken to Alyone for several months. There is no trace of Alyone.
In Russia animal torture is a criminal felony. The investigation continues.
