A Georgia man, who used a torch to burn a dog who was locked inside of a dog house, has been sentenced to prison time. According to Thursday’s WSB-TV 2 News, 23-year-old Caleb Lanier has been sentence to four years in prison and six years of probation for the charge of felony animal cruelty resulting from the May 2015 incident.

The dog that Lanier attacked suffered severe burns over 60-percent of her body. Veterinarian Regan Burford, who treated the dog, stated, “Royati should never had survived the abuse she endured or the agonizing treatment she fought through to survive.”

Amazingly, Royati, now known as Sweet Potato Fry, recovered from the massive burns, but she does require ongoing care for continued health issues resulting from the torturous act of violence. Individuals testifying in court on behalf of Lanier stated that the burning was “out of character” for the Cobb County resident, and they indicated that he was not a danger to the community – but prosecutors disagreed and argued that he is dangerous and likely to commit other crimes.Screenshot (895)

Lanier will be credited with time already served behind bars – Sweet Potato Fry has a new home with the veterinarian who helped her recover.

  1. This was “out of character for him” and “he’s not a danger to the community”? REALLY? How many times do people say that about someone and he IS DANGEROUS? Who the hell does something like that if they aren’t? What kind of people stand up for someone capable of this kind of cruelty anyway? If he were my son, as much as I love him, I wouldn’t.

  2. Any person who could do this is severely disturbed. Animal cruelty beyond belief and the use of fire are double trouble. He will need “supervision” for the rest of his life.

  3. Why do people get more probation time than time served for prison or jail!? If it was a child that was abused you can bet that time served would be for a longer time period. We need tougher laws for animal abuse!

  4. leave him in jail and lose the key.he try to burn a 4 legged kid wearing fur.so he should be charge with attempt to murde a kid also.no parole at all.next time it migth be a human kid or a whole family he kills .

  5. The “So-called-Individual’s” who testified this MAGGOT VOMIT was not a danger to the community must be “CRACK HEADS”””!!! Hell he should have been torched like he did his poor dog!!!

  6. While I really wish he had been given even more time, this at least shows that this judge understands just how dangerous an animal abuser can be and just how horrible his crime was. I’m so happy the dog has a loving home and pray her health related issues resulting from this eventually go away.
