A Wood County, West Virginia woman is now facing criminal charges relating to the egregious abuse of a seven-week-old puppy now named Trotter (previously named Casper). Tammara Briggs, 28, of Mineral Wells, was arrested on Monday by Wood County sheriff’s deputies and charged with animal cruelty.
According to the NewsCenter, an acquaintance of the owner reached out to authorities about the condition of the tiny, white pit bull puppy stating the owner broke ribs and fractured the puppy’s spine. Michelle Earl, executive director for the Humane Society of Parkersburg, was devastated when she saw what had happened. Doctors say they don’t think Trotter will ever fully recover or walk again. The x-ray and MRI shows the puppy has a fractured spine. At this time, the adorable little pooch has no bowel or bladder control either.
“We plan to be very involved with the prosecution of this,” Earl stated. “To take care of Casper and see how helpless he is now because of somebody inflicting trauma to him is just senseless, and we want people to know that we’re not going to tolerate it. We are going to press charges and we are going to try to execute to the fullest extent to the law the punishment that we can give to people.”
“Some stories just rip your heart out. Trotter is a 7-wk old puppy whose owner is charged with beating him so badly, his ribs & spine were broken. There’s question whether he will ever walk again, but Pitties and Purrs is committed to getting him the medical care he needs. Any help you can give this sweet little guy would be greatly appreciated.”
Briggs has been released on a $4,000 bond. A second pit bull was removed from the residence and has been taken to the Humane Society of Parkersburg. Donations to help Trotter can be made by clicking here.
