Animal lovers and supporters of the Cavalier Rescue of Florida have been flooding the office of Circuit Judge Frank Marriott in Volusia County hoping to allow a ten-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel to be placed with the rescue organization, adopted into a good home and not be returned to her owner, reports the NewsJournal.
Marilynne Jones, 70, was arrested late last week after she allegedly tried to drown her dog, Gracie in the ocean. According to WFTV News, the disturbing scene unfolded on Wednesday afternoon at Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Point Park with witnesses describing how Jones repeatedly dragged the chocolate-colored leashed dog into the water. One witness said Jones was laughing at the dog, who had already become unconscious, when another person was able to grab the dog and revive her using CPR.
Jones’ attorney George Pappas was emphatic however, that Jones loves her dog and “this is not what it appears to be.” Although the police report indicates witnesses were yelling at Jones while she and Gracie were in the water and the dog was apparently drowning, Pappas states his client is deaf and had not been wearing her hearing aids at the beach.
