On Friday morning, an eight-year-old pit bull who disappeared from a police officer’s home during a burglary in Jacksonville, Florida, earlier in the week, was found with a gunshot wound to his face, reported News 4 Jax. The dog, named “Hemingway,” was found after the police officer’s friends organized a search to find the missing dog.

The officer’s dog disappeared when burglars broke into his Murray Hill residence on Tuesday. According to Action News Jax, guns, the officer’s truck, and keys to his patrol car, were taken during the break-in.

One teen has been arrested in connection to the burglary. The suspect, 14-year-old Patrick Bell, was found driving the officer’s stolen truck. The teen, who was on probation for previously stealing another truck, is facing a slew of charges for the more recent crime, including armed burglary, auto theft, one count of aggravated battery on an officer and three counts of aggravated assault on an officer.

Hemingway was taken to Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Orange Park, and treated free of charge. The volunteers who found the injured dog have declined taking the officer’s $1,000 reward.

  1. Filthy cowards!!! It’s bad enough to break into someone’s home, but to shoot, even kill, their pets is beyond inhuman. Any monster soulless enough to do this needs to be locked up and kept there.

  2. A 14 year old that is on probation for stealing cars, has a real bright future ahead of him. If he had anything to do with shooting the poor dog, then I hope he is locked up for good! I hope they find his accomplices they all need to pay dearly for what they have done.

    • He is not the sharpest tool in the shed is he? He has earned a nice stretch in the pokey. I hope they throw the book at him. What a dipstick. Speedy recovery to Hemingway. Nice to see a police officer that loves his Pit Bull.
