A three-year-old Maltese mix named Billy, may seem like a happy-go-lucky little pooch, but there is little doubt his former owners failed him time and time again. Whenever the dog’s owners felt they couldn’t deal with their playful and strong willed little one, they would surrender him to the Animal Care Centers of New York City. And seven times, little Billy was a resident of the shelter, however each time the mandatory 72 hour hold period was about to expire, the dog’s owners would show up and reclaim him – that is until the seventh time.billy-the-maltese-2

“The last 2 or 3 times they dumped Billy at the shelter he became very stressed and agitated; obviously Billy’s owners’ actions were completely negligent and affecting Billy greatly. The 7th time Billy was again dumped in the shelter, the staff reached out to us and asked if we could possibly help Billy,” reported co-founder Jackie O’Sullivan of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.

On the final time as Billy’s 72-hold expired, it became an emergency situation, and the energetic, but confused pooch was finally whisked away from the shelter environment forever. He has been medically treated for past injuries and is now ready to be adopted.

“This nine pound dog gets along fine with other dogs and children over five. He is ready to start his new life,” happily announced Jackie.

  1. I am so glad that the shelter finally decided to not give him back to this stupid ignorant responsible person. My God whatever hole do this people crawl out of. I hope that she never is allow to own a dog.

  2. What is wrong with people? Did they really think a dog would understand this was a punishment? I’m glad he has been rescued from these POS’s! I only hope and pray they don’t get another dog to do this to.

  3. How was he misbehaving? Jumping or climbing a fence, digging out? I just adopted a rescue that is a runner and have installed a new fence, now he climbs it. Just purchased a shock collar to train him not to climb the fence. Hope this works.
