According to Wednesday’s KHOU News, a man has been reunited with his dog, who was adopted out to a family in Texas a short time ago. The dog, a Siberian husky named “Scout,” is Wesam Alkhani’s service dog – Scout helps his epileptic owner deal with seizures.
Two weeks ago, while Alkhani (who recently moved from Washington State to Texas) was visiting friends in Houston, Scout escaped and disappeared. Though Alkhani put up fliers and searched the area, he failed to find his missing dog. Later, Alkhani learned that Scout had been taken to the Pasadena Animal Shelter.
Unfortunately, by the time that Alkhani went to the shelter, Scout had already been adopted out to a new family, and the shelter refused to release the new adopter’s name to Alkhani. Desperate, the man turned to local media for help. Alkhani was hopeful that whoever adopted Scout would hear his story and be moved to reach out to him.
His idea worked – Scout’s adoptive family saw the news and agreed to meet Alkhani at the shelter to relinquish custody of their new pet. Alkhani was elated – he told KHOU News, “I can’t even describe it. I got my dog back. This is the happiest I’ve been in a very long time.”
Scout’s adoptive family was sad to see him go, but happy that has been reunited with his rightful owner – they told KHOU News, “He’s a great dog. He’s an absolutely great dog and we absolutely loved him. We’re just happy he’s able to be with his father and that he’s happy.”

I’m glad the new family did the right thing. This was always my biggest fear with adopting a dog that was found as a stray…..that years later, someone would see Buddy (who was very recognizable due to having 2 toes missing from his front left foot) when we were out somewhere and say: “Hey, that’s my dog – he ran away and we never could find him.” Thankfully, it never happened but it was always in the back of my mind.
Thank you to his adopters for doing the right thing!!! Now you can go save another precious life. I know it had to be hard for you but this is a win win, now two lives can be saved instead of one.
I have mixed feelings about this as to who and why the first owners dog escaped, who or if Someone was watching him while his owner was off visiting in Houston apparently not concerned ! After only living in this area for a 2 week period of time did the first owner have a responsible caretaker!!! Hopefully this is a ONE time thing and Scout will be save and secure from another incident like this for the Rest of HIS hopefully long and happy life…
Bless the family who adopted Scout for doing the right thing and returning him to his Dad, it helps restore one’s faith in humanity. I know Scout’s adoptive family will find another wonderful dog that needs them, This is a perfect example of why our dogs need to be micro chipped.
Thank you dear family for understanding. If I was in your shoes I would have returned ‘SCOUT” also. Thank God, Scout was adopted to an understanding family. And he is now home with his loving master. Sometimes in a new situation like a move, a dog will bolt. There is not necessarily any blame here. I am a bit surprised that the shelter didn’t hold him longer, since he came in as a stray. Usually there is a mandatory stray hold period to give owners a chance to find their lost pets before they are adopted out. Just glad for the happy ending!
